Hello, so for any previous readers of mine that did not the chance to read my most reason authors note, I am redoing this story because I want to and I am the author so I can. Fear not though, because I will not take as long to update, hopefully. I have a lot of free time at my job so I have quite a bit of time to write. I do hope that you will forgive me for this and bear with me while I work on this.

If you are a new reader then ignore the previous statements, and please enjoy the story. But allow me to clear some things up. FIRST, I do not ship Hiccstrid, I have no problem with those that do. My best friend ships it, and I do not disrespect her for it, so please offer me the same courtesy and respect me for not shipping it. And I will extend you the same. Now that I have cleared that up, this is not a hiccstrid story, this is a HiccupxOC story. If you have a problem with that, you do not have to read it. SECOND, when I say I love reviews and I thrive off of them, I mean it. But if you have criticism to give me give it to me by all means, but please make it constructive. If you go into my reviews and complain about something, but you don't give me advice on how to fix it I will lose respect for you and then I will ignore you. But if you simply put in advice on how to fix something, if you say I have a mistake or something in the story isn't how you like it and then you tell me how to fix it or what you would do I am more willing to listen to your ideas and maybe even incorporate them into this story. THIRD, I love hearing your ideas, because the more ideas you offer me the more ideas I get and the faster the story will move along. FORTH AND FINALLY IN THIS LONG RANT THAT I HOPE YOU ARE READING, I genuinely enjoy having you guys as readers and I want to keep you as my readers, so please if there is anything about my story that bothers you tell me and let me know how I could fix it and if it works with my story plan I will gladly incorporate it.

I really hope that you will enjoy this story. Please do review.

I don't own How to Train Your Dragon.

The man panted as he struggled to rocky terrain. His hood snagged on the jagged edges and the rocks tumbled out from under his feet unexpectedly causing him to almost fall many times. He breathed heavily as he looked up to see how far he was from the top, and let out a sigh of relief as he saw how close he was. He once again started his ascent to the top of the rocky island. His slow progress got him to the top in a little over twenty minutes, it would have been a lot quicker had the stairs that had been along the side of the cliff not been burned down to nothing. He took several shaky steps to a rock and sat down as he surveyed the land around him. He knew it well, or at least he had. The land had been his home before it was attacked, and now it was lost forever. Now it was no longer home, it was a graveyard. The houses were burned down to the foundations, any structures still standing were left deserted and covered in ash and dust. The people who couldn't get out in time were still left; the flesh peeled or burned off their bones. Those lucky enough to escape the houses were littering the streets the same as the ones in the houses.

This was Berk.

The once happy land full of life was now a barren landscape. The houses' that once stood tall and proud were nothing but foundations now, vines slowly making their way up the ruins. The once spirit land that was always abuzz with excitement and energetic laughing and banter was now silent. No sound could be heard other than that of the wind whistling and the ocean crashing onto the rocks far below.

The man made his way through the ashy village, towards the burned structure at the head of the village. It seemed to have taken the most damage out of the entire island, not even remnants of the old building left beyond the flooring and ash covered weapons. He stepped to one side where a wall once was and saw the ash-covered helmet with the horn on the left side busted off. He knelt down to pick it up and felt tears fall as he turned to observe the rest of the rubble. His sight landed on a burned body, or what was left of one, and felt his heart sink as his eyes traveled to the red spiked skirt and gave all the confirmation he needed to know exactly who it used to be. He felt tears stream down his face as the weight of the situation became too much for him and he collapsed fully to the ground.

He froze and his tears stopped when he heard footsteps sound behind him and without thinking he quickly lunged towards the large sword that had fallen to the ground when the house was burned to the ground and swung around to come face to face with a rather large man who jumped back in shock at the sword being held to his chest. He shot his hands up in surrender and looked down at the man in confusion.

"I thought we had gotten all of the villagers onto our ship." He stated as his hands fell t his sides, "Who are you?" He asked as he looked back at the sword and rolled his eyes before swatting it away like nothing.

The man looked between the stranger and the sword that he had swatted away like it was a feather but he said nothing.

"Well, if you are a Berkian we have your fellow survivors on our ship if you would like to join them." The man said as he slowly turned away from him.

"I am Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third." He finally said as he rose and stepped forward, "I am the chieftain of Berk."

The other man turned around and looked Hiccup up and down, "My condolences about the resent fate of your village, but as I said we have the few survivors we have found on the island on our ship." He explained as he turned and started off again, "And I am sure that our captain will be able to answer any questions you have about the attack."

Hiccup squared his shoulders and followed after the man as he led him to a makeshift stairway that led to the docks and Hiccup loudly groaned as he though about how much time knowing those were there would have saved him. He followed the large man to a ship that was docked and immediately wondered how he missed that when he arrived at his island. He followed the man onto the ship and as soon as their feet hit the deck Hiccup found himself staring at the pitiful remains of his home, but he still felt a little lighter at the sight before him. Sitting before him, covered in ash, were Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Eret, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and his mother.

His mother looked up and her eyes landed on him before she got up and ran to embrace him. "Oh, Hiccup I am so glad you are safe." She said as she pulled away and frantically searched his body for any injuries.

Hiccup sighed in slight annoyance, "Mom, I'm ok," He said pulling her away from him, "but what happened to the village?"

His mother looked down at the ground sadly, "We were attacked, the came in the middle of the night and burned everything in sight, then stole all of our dragons and disappeared just as quickly as they had appeared." She explained, "We don't even know who led the attack, but we do know we were the only ones to make it out alive. Not even Ast-"

"Don't." Hiccup said quickly cutting her off, "I don't need to know who died, I'm just happy some of you made it out okay."

"Okay is a relative term." Eret spoke as he walked up to the two, "Injuries were sustained, thank gods these people came to our aid." He said gesturing to the large man that had led Hiccup to the ship.

"With that being said," Hiccup started as he turned to the large man, "Who are you and why did you help us?" He asked.

The man looked around at the crew as if searching for someone and after he seemingly couldn't find them he sighed and turned to the Berkian's, "My name is Jakobe Spar, This is the ship Revenge, and we have been hunting the man that destroyed your village for years." HE explained quickly, and looked at them expectantly. The Berkian's all shared the same confused look before turning back to Jakobe. He sighed and shook his head; "Every crew member here has suffered the same fate as you, by the same hand as yours was delivered. Our captain has interacted with the heathen on a personal level and when started this hunt years ago. We would gladly accept any help you would offer in our goal. But we also understand if you don't wish to, in which case the next time we dock we will send you off with enough money to make anew on a more suitable island." He explained. The Berkian's slowly nodded and all turned to Hiccup to see what he would say.

"We will gladly join your crew, captain." He said.

Jakobe laughed at the statement, "Oh chief, I am not the captain." He said through his chuckles as the rest of the crew also joined in with the laughter.

"Then with all due respect," Hiccup starts, drawing back the attention to himself, "I would like to speak with your captain before we agree to anything." He said and the deck fell silent.

"Only you as leader may speak with the captain." Came the curt response as Jakobe turned on his heel and walked towards the Captains cabin. Hiccup looked around at his friends and follows after with a confused look. He came to a halt outside the door as Jakobe slowly opened the door and stepped in quickly before closing the door abruptly behind him. Hiccup could here muted voices heatedly discussing something that he couldn't make out before he heard the sound of Jakobe's boots landing on the wood as he walked back to the door. Hiccup quickly stepped away as the door opened and Jakobe motioned for him to walk in.

The sight before him halted him in his steps.
