Carlton punched the kitchen wall of the apartment he shared with Shawn, "What was I thinking?" He yelled to the empty apartment.
He was stressed over a case, a weeks worth of sleepless nights and the aggravation he was feeling needed an outlet and he found it in Shawn.
He had told Shawn during an argument that he wasn't sure why they were together, the man he had spent the last two years with.
The shocked look Shawn had given him before he had stormed out of the apartment was burned into his brain.
Carlton stopped pacing, "I can't let him leave." He mumbled before running out the apartment door and racing down the buildings stairs.
He slammed into the door at the bottom of the stairs and ran out onto the sidewalk looking in the direction he knew Shawn had parked his bike. He was awarded with the sight of Shawn struggling to put the kickstand on his bike into place.
"Shawn!" He shouted, but his voice was lost in the grumble of thunder and crash of lightning that chose that moment to strike.
Shawn grabbed the helmet off his bike and was just about to put it on when a flash of lightning lit up the sky around him. He glanced up and his eyes immediately came into contact with an already soaked Carlton.
He watched as Carlton approached, "What do you want Carlton?" He shouted over the pouring rain.
"I need to tell you something." Carlton placed one of his hands on the handle bars of Shawn's bike.
Shawn's gaze followed Carlton's hand as his own hand tightened around his helmet. "I think you've said enough."
Carlton's head dropped towards the ground, "You can't ride in this rain, Shawn." He said bringing his head back up a moment later.
Shawn snorted, a bitter look gracing his face. "Is that all? You came all the way out here to tell me that?"
When Shawn didn't receive an answer he started to bring the helmet above his head, until Carlton grabbed his hand.
His eyes met Carlton's, his heart pounding as he waited for the other man to say something.
Carlton's grip on Shawn's hand relaxed and he rubbed his thumb lightly over the other man's knuckle, "I'm sorry for what I said."
Shawn lowered the helmet and watched as Carlton dropped his hand, he moved around the other side of the bike to stand in front of his partner.
The only thing separating the two men was the drenching rain and the soft glow from the nearby street light.
"We can't keep doing this, Lassi."
Something stirred inside Carlton's heart at the spoken nickname Shawn had given him.
Shawn continued, "Either were both in this together, all the way, or we're not in this at all." He softly spoke as he inched closer to Carlton, their faces mere inches apart.
Carlton brought a hand up to Shawn's face, tracing a finger along his jaw bone. "I'm in this forever, Shawn."
And before Shawn could utter another word Carlton brought their lips crashing together, as the sky around them grumbled and the night lit up with a brilliant flash of lightning.
The helmet slipped out of Shawn's hand and hit the ground with a crack; his heart was racing uncontrollably as his lips met with Carlton's.
They broke apart, both breathing heavily. "Forever works for me." Shawn said as he leaned forward this time and pressed his lips to Carlton's, neither one caring about the rain that continued to fall down around them.
