Island of Full Bloom

(Harvest Moon Fanfiction)

(Kana x Mark)

Rain poured upon the land as she walked along a road from the beach into town. A man was walking in an opposing direction, blond-haired with a blue cap on his head that kept the water from soaking his skull. He looked in the girl's direction curiously, watching as she opened the door to the carpenter's shop. As he watched her enter, curiosity seemed to be in his mind, but he said nothing about it and moved forward, making his way to the merchant's shop across the street.

"Hello there," A large man said to the girl once she entered entirely into the shop.

"Good morning! I came to ask for some farm-land?" Her voice sounded as though it were a wind-chime.

"Ah, ye' want to be a rancher?"

"Yes. I've heard about an amazing rancher that lives on this island, and I came here to start a ranch of my own. I guess you could say I look up to him, and want to follow his footsteps."

"I see. I believe a separate, small island just off the coast is fine for farming and such. Are ye' staying at the inn? I'll come tell ye' in the morning if I can build you a house there. I'd have to check."

"Surely. Thank you so much, sir." She smiled warmly. The large man chuckled.

"Please. M'name's Gannon. I'll help ye' whenever ye' need it!"

"I'm Kana. It's nice to meet you! Thank you so much, Gannon."

"It'sa pleausre, Kana. See ye' in the mornin'."

"See you." Waving, the girl ran off, her long hair flying behind her in the process. Once outside, Kana looked all around her, taking in her dampened surroundings. "This is a nice little island. I hope I can live here."

She made her way into the store, wanting to start meeting the people of the island. As a bell rang to signify an entry through the door, a somewhat older man turned to look at her. "Ah, hello there. May I help you?"

"I just want to look around. My name's Kana- I'm hoping to start a ranch here! I figure looking around might be a good idea while I wait to figure out if I can."

"Ah, I see. My name is Chen, and this is my son, Charlie. I sell seeds, food and other things you might find handy." The younger boy he'd introduced as Charlie smiled broadly.

"Hi, Lady! If you need me to enhance tools or make accessories, let me know! I'll need either Wonderfuls or Orichalc to do it, though!" Kana giggled.

"Alright, I'll remember that. Thank you both!" The man from the street was still there, looking at her suddenly, surprised. He walked over carefully, placing a hand on her shoulder while he was behind her, causing her to jump from surprise. "Gah! Oh- sorry... You scared me."

"It's alright. Sorry for startling you." The man smiled warmly, showing a generally friendly demeanor. "I'm Mark. I wanted to welcome you to the island!"

"Oh! Thank you! I'm Kana... It's nice to meet you."

"Likewise! So, you're hoping to run a ranch on the island? I'm a rancher too. I'd be happy to help you start out whenever you need it."

"No, that'd be too much trouble for you! Besides, it'd be silly to start a ranch if I don't want to work hard on it, right?" The man laughed at her logic a bit.

"Still, we're neighbors! Neighbors have to help each other, right? Just remember to ask if you ever need some help, okay?"

"Alright." She laughed as well. "I think I'll head to the inn for now. I need some rest... Take care, Mark!"

"See you later." Mark smiled at that point, waving to the girl as she ran off.
