Creative title, huh? Here's an almost-double-drabble. I just got into the Circle of Magic series, and I really like them. This is one of the relationship that I like most - TrisNiko friendship. Not a romance, just a strong bond, and I love it. This is just a scene I pictured. Probably will be more to come when I finish the Circle Opens series. Takes place in the last bit of Briar's Book, after they were on the roof talking.
Words: 279
Characters: Tris, Niko
Time: End of Briar's Book
Genre: Friendship/Family

Tris paused, then hurried down from atop the roof, following the familiar mage. "Niko?"
Turning, Niko tilted his head in a question when he caught sight of her. "Tris? What is it?"
Should he have to ask? thought Tris with a smile. She hurried forward and fell into pace close beside her teacher. Together they traveled through the halls of Discipline in a comfortable silence, taking in the feel of home that had become so familiar. And then – suddenly – Tris threw her arms around Niko's neck and hugged him tightly, ignoring his neat, fancy robes.
"Tris," said Niko, trying to scold, but the laugh in his voice was obvious. His arms wrapped around her back and he embraced her gently. "What was that for?"
"A thank you," Tris said cheerfully, settling back onto her feet. "For teaching me and bringing us together and all. One year ago."
"One year ago," repeated the mage with a smile. "You know, if I'd known you four were going to be such trouble, I might have just left you all there - "
"Hey!"
"Especially you," Niko teased, grinning at her. "Giving me heart attacks every other day - "
Tris stuck her tongue out. As they began to walk again, Niko placed a light hand on her shoulder. "I'm glad you came, Tris."
"I'm glad too," the young mage replied. Because she finally had a family – a real family, at least. The kind that was accepting and loving no matter what. Glancing up, Tris met Niko's dark eyes for a moment. Then she smiled mischievously.
"Want to go stand up on the edge of the tower and try to control a giant storm again?"
"Tris!"
