Gracia knocked on the door.
"Elicia, are you ready honey? It's about to start soon," she said as she entered the dressing room. Gracia looked at the blushing bride, her eyes brimming with tears. She almost couldn't accept that this beautiful mature woman standing before her was her baby girl.
"I can't believe how... grown up you are," she said embracing her daughter. Elicia was trying her best not to cry.
"I wish daddy was here to see this," she said.
"I know sweetie. I miss him too and I'm sure he's watching over us," Gracia assured her. They heard another knock at the door.
"Everybody decent?" Roy's voice questioned.
"Yes. Come Mustang." Roy entered and smiled at the mother and daughter.
"We were just talking about daddy." Mustang walked over to the bride and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Your father was a fine man and I was proud to have known him when he was alive. I consider it a great honour to walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day." Elicia smiled, teary eyed and nodded.
"It's what he would have wanted."
Maes was there. He had always been there for his little girl. The time Elicia skun her knee riding a bike the first time; when she broke her arm climbing a tree; when she graduated school. And now he was there for one of the most important days in his little girl's life. Her wedding day. Huges only wished that he could walk her down the aisle himself.
Roy looked at the young woman on his arm. 'Where did the time go?' he thought. Elicia was just a toddler when Maes died. Now she was getting married. Gracia did such a great job raising Elicia by herself. She never did re-marry after her husband's death. Mustang checked up on them every now and then and each time she had grown a little more with each visit.
The couple stood at the altar. Elicia looked at the sea of faces. She could see the Elric brothers with their wives and children. A few of Maes' military buddies had attended the wedding. Her mother smiling with tears of joy streaming down her face. Then something caught her attention. Just for a moment, she could swear she saw her father sitting next to her mother. Elicia smiled. She knew Gracia was right. She knew Maes would always be there for her no matter what.
Author's note:
I can just imagine what Elicia's big day would have been like if her father was still alive.
