The Other Half

Harry Potter found the photograph in Snape's robes the day he died. It was crumbled and battered and by the looks of it, it had been unfolded and looked at on a daily basis. The imagine was almost too light to be made out, but he recognized the laughing face; it was his mother. At first Harry didn't understand how a picture of his mother got into the robes of Severus Snape or why the torn picture was there.

It wasn't until he had seen Snape's memories that he realized that photograph was the missing half of the picture he found in Sirius's room months earlier. The other half.

There were several wet stains on the photograph, giving it a distorted look. But Lily was still smiling. His father or he did not appear anywhere in the picture, but Harry could see where James's legs and a laughing Harry on the toy broomstick might have been in the scene at one time.

Snape's blood had seeped through to the back side and was threatening to ruin the picture completely. Harry wiped the blood from the back and put the photograph into his pocket. He would return all that Snape had of his dear Lily and it would be buried with him; the man who lost everything to save the life of Lily's boy.
