Author's Note and Disclaimer: I don't own them. This is what could have happened with the conversation in Cold Fire when Frostpine was asked by Camoc how Dedicate Initiate Crane was doing and what would have happened if Daja had listened to part of their conversation.

Horrifying Revelations By Gila Draper-Snape

"Have you met Dedicate Initiate Crane there at Winding Circle?" asked Camoc. "We went to Lightsbridge together."

'I feel sorry for him then' Daja thought amusedly, seeing Crane's drooping frame in her mind's eye.

Frostpine grinned at him, "oh, I know Crane very well. Don't know HOW you put up with him at Lightsbridge though."

Camoc looked at the metal mage, startled, "what do you mean? Crane was a little arrogant but he was basically a good person."

'Obviously he's not talking about the same Crane here,' Daja thought, exchanging looks with her teacher.

"Oh don't get me wrong," Frostpine amended quickly, "he's a decent sort, but he takes his position as a mage of nobility far too seriously."

Camoc chuckled, shaking his head ruefully, "I think being a novice humbled him. I guessed that something like that would happen when he took his vows."

Somehow Daja couldn't envision Crane as humble. It was just one of those things that defies all logic.

Suddenly Camoc looked intently at Frostpine, amusement twinkling in his eyes, "wait-do you know a woman called Dedicate Rosethorn?"

'He knew Rosethorn too? That poor, poor man,' Daja lamented mentally.

Frostpine nodded, "both she and Crane live at Winding Circle," then he grinned crookedly, "that's part of the reason we're here and not there."

"Is Crane still." Camoc raised his eyebrows suggestively, "with her."

The expression on Daja's face was one of pure shock, and she gaped at Camoc Oakborn incredulously.

"Crane? And-and Rosethorn? Together?" Daja spluttered, eliciting a laugh from Frostpine. "What exactly was going on at Lightsbridge?!"

"You didn't know?" Camoc blinked in surprise. "The whole time we were at Lightsbridge those two were the most infatuated couple imaginable. It was disgusting. I'm just surprised they took their vows instead of marrying."

MARRYING?! This was just too much for Daja to comprehend.

And to make matters worse, it seemed that Frostpine wasn't the least bit stunned by this news. In fact, he even added his own two agribs to the conversation.

"They're still together, they fight like an old married couple," Frostpine grinned, folding his arms across his chest.

Heluda, who had been silent for the majority of the conversation suddenly piped up, "From what I've heard from my friend's at Winding Circle, Crane's still bedding her."

Daja groaned, her head dropping into her hands. This was far more than she EVER needed to know.

"I'm leaving," she told Frostpine disgustedly, "NOW."

He started laughing as she walked away, calling after her, "you're usually so observant, I'm surprised you didn't know."

She ignored him, cheeks burning, and stalked off to a group of student mages, Camoc's student Arnen among them.

She was going to have several words with her teacher when they got back home, she thought fiercely, and none of them would be "Mila bless".
