This is just a short little oneshot that popped into my head. Honestly, it's not my best work. But I hope you like it anyway! :)
Nap Time
Sketch. Frown. Erase. Sketch. Sigh. Crumple. Toss.
Sketch. Erase. Sketch. Huff. Crumple. Toss.
Arthur watched as the architect pulled out yet another piece of paper. It was nearly dawn, weak streams of sunlight already peeking through the windows. The point man had arrived early in hopes of finishing his research before lunch, only to find Ariadne already inside the warehouse, hunched over her worn sketchpad. It was a well-known fact that the young woman was not a morning person, so Arthur decided not to question her unusual clock-in, only bidding her a quick 'good morning' before heading towards his desk and turning on his laptop.
The architect's constant grumbling had caught his interest, however, and his work was soon forgotten as the pile of balled-up paper beside her desk grew.
Sketch. Sketch. Sketch. Grin. Sketch. Pause. Erase. Frown. Crumple. Toss. Groan.
"Is everything okay?"
Ariadne jumped, the sudden jerk causing her pencil to skid across her new page. "Fuck!" She looked up from her ruined paper to find Arthur standing in front of her desk. "What?" she growled, annoyed.
The point man raised an eyebrow. "You're quite ill-tempered today, Ms. Ariadne…"
The architect stared at him before letting out a frustrated whine, burying her head into her hands. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, and a small sniffle, followed by a quiet whimper escaped her.
Arthur had no idea what to do. Ariadne was a tough woman; he'd never seem her so vulnerable. He quickly rushed to her side and rubbed her back awkwardly, trying to comfort her as best he could. "Um…there, there….it's…ok?"
"I'm sorry…" Ariadne cried, wiping her tears. "It's just…I've been…drawing…all night…so tired…can't figure..."
"Shhh…it's okay…" the point man murmured, stroking her hair. He reached down and gently took her hands, pulling her up out of her chair. "C'mon, let's get you to bed…"
The architect weakly tried to tug her arms out of his. "N-no…I promised Cobb I'd finish by today…"
"And you will finish today…" Arthur coaxed, strengthening his grip on her. "You just need to…take a little break…" She gave up her struggle and allowed him to guide her to the familiar lawn chairs located in the back of the warehouse. "Now, go to sleep. I'll wake you in a little bit."
Ariadne fell onto the chair and curled up into a little ball. Her eyelids fluttered slowly, and soon she was fast asleep. Arthur smiled down at her still form and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Sweet dreams, Ar…"
"Wow, this sketch is great, Ariadne!" Cobb scanned the drawing excitedly as the young architect stood beside him, blushing. "When did you finish it?"
"Oh, about ten minutes ago…."
"Really?" the extractor looked at her, confused. "But you were still drawing it when I went home last night. And you'd been working on it for hours. I hope you didn't stay up all night to finish…"
"Don't worry, Cobb…." Ariadne glanced at Arthur, who was working at his desk. She smiled at him, and he shot her a sly grin in return. "Someone made sure I took a little break…"
