Oh, The Obligations: Chapter 1 (Introduction)

Summary: Hermione is faced with a terrible situation when the Ministry of Magic issues a new marrige law. Rated M for Mature audiences.

Introduction

Dumbledore frowned at her when she arrived in his office, which made her feel uneasy. She knew about the new law that Fudge had issued, and she was worried that it may effect her. She wouldn't know what to do with herself if she was actually betrothed to an asshole Pureblood.

The law stated that selected Muggleborns had to marry and consummate with a Pureblooded witch or wizard until a child is born. Marriges were arranged by a 'team of specialists' who based the matches on how healthy the child of the given witch and wizard would be. Of course, they decided upon this because of all the squibs being produced from Pureblood marriges. And Hermione was not thrilled, to any degree.

"Ms. Granger, take a seat. I am afraid you will be here longer than usual." Dumbledore spoke warmly, trying to lighten the mood. He offered her a lemon drop, which she declined. How the hell could she eat when she may have the rest of her life planned for her in the next ten minutes?

Hermione took her seat, "Professor, I am almost positive that this is about the new law, is it not?"

"I am afraid so, Ms. Granger. And I am terribly sorry when I say that it effects you enormously."

Damnit.

Hermione's face fell at this comment. She redied herself for the worse. "I have just recieved a letter from the Ministry speaking of the students affected by this law. You are to be married Hermione." Dumbledore looked at her with pity, what a 'poor girl' she was.

She inhaled sharply, and bit her lip, not willing herself to cry. Her voice cracked, "And whom am I to marry?"

"Severus Snape"

What. The. Fuck, was all she thought.

"YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. I CANNOT MARRY THAT GREASY OLD GIT!" Hermione screamed across the room, seething in front of the Headmaster's desk.

She saw a flash of black robes.

"And you really think I would want to marry filth like you, Ms. Granger!"
