A baby's cries woke up Blaine Anderson one Saturday night.
"It's your turn," Kurt grumbled, shoving his head under his pillow. Blaine blinked open his eyes sleepily and sat up, rubbing the sand from his eyes. He walked into the nursery to find his beautiful six month old daughter laying in her crib, arms outstretched and wailing uncontrollably.
Her little fists raised toward him when she saw him enter the room, tear stained face looking at him.
"Hi, baby girl," Blaine yawned. "What's the matter?" Elizabeth started bawling again, shaking her arms at him. He picked her up and carried her over to the rocking chair. Elizabeth was pressed to his chest, her head resting on his shoulder. His hand cupped her small bottom as he rubbed her back. He rocked his daughter, humming softly.
After awhile, Blaine thought Elizabeth was calm enough and stood up to lay her back in her crib. Once her back hit the mattress, however, she started crying again, reaching for her daddy.
"Oh, baby girl." Blaine held her, bouncing softly, and tried again. He received the same result. Blaine tried every trick in the book, but Elizabeth would not sleep on her own.
Blaine was out of options. He climbed in the crib and laid down, settling Elizabeth on his chest. One of her fists wound into his shirt and the other found her mouth. She suckled on her fingers, falling into a very light sleep.
Every time Blaine tried to move, Elizabeth whined. He eventually fell into a restless sleep inside the small crib.
Blaine woke up around seven in the morning, neck bent at a ninety degree angle and back pressing into the bars. He tried to move his neck and cried out softly in pain. He looked over at the door very slowly and saw Kurt standing in the doorway, dressed in a robe and sipping a mug of coffee.
"Kurt," he whimpered, "my back hurts."
