Part I
Accepting the offer
Matt's POV
"You come with us." Said Attean. My head was spinning; I didn't know what would happen. What if my family was already dead? No, I can't think like that. There still out there I know it. But what if-"Are you coming white brother?" Attean said interrupting my train of thought. "I- I don't know." I replied. Come on, you know you have to, I thought to myself. But I can't, my parents are coming home soon! But they could survive with what I left them right? If they even made it here. I'll just leave a note. "I'll come," I said, my voice sounding unsure. "Okay white brother" Said Attean. "We will go tomorrow." With that they left, leaving me worried and confused. What should I do now? So I sat down and started my note:
Dear family,
I am sorry if you read this, but I have gone to live with the Indians. They have taken me in, and I feared that you wouldn't come back. I left some supplies in the kitchen and didn't take much for the trip. I will always remember you and miss you, but I think this was for the best.
Love,
Matt
-Time lapse, the next morning-
"Time to go." Said Attean. We walked towards the village, following the signs on the trees. I was getting ready for adventure, it thought. But I really knew I was leaving my family. We finally arrived at the village to help the people get ready. We started loading supplies for the journey.
Part II
The Family Arrives
Matt's father pulled the sled down the river. "We're almost there!" He exclaimed. "When will we see Matt Pa?" Sarah asked. "Soon enough, dear." Said Matt's mother. "okay Mum!" replied Sarah.
When they get to the cabin
"Matt, are you here?" Matt's mother yelled frantically. "look the gun is gone, he must be out hunting." His dad said. "That's not it dad, He's gone." Sarah said sadly. "What makes you say that?!" Yelled father. "Look here Pa, I found this." She handed her father the letter.
Dear family,
I am sorry if you read this, but I have gone to live with the Indians. They have taken me in, and I feared that you wouldn't come back. I left some supplies in the kitchen and didn't take much for the trip. I will always remember you and miss you, but I think this was for the best.
Love,
Matt
"No! This can't be!" Matt's mother said, clearly heart-broken. "Not to live with those ruffians!" "It's my fault, I told him we'd be here weeks ago!" "No, pa I got sick and held us up." "no that was me! This is all because of me! How could I have held you up with my illness like that!" Mother shouted at them. "there's nothing we can do now, I'm sorry." Said Father glumly.
Matt's Pov.
