Hi guys...just in case you didn't see the notice, the next chapter of "Going Home" has been postponed for now, and you can read why on my profile. However, for the time being I'm going to be posting one-shots. Fluff, angst, tragedy-whatever you guys want. *If you have any requests just pm me or review this first story :)* I hope you like it!
Ik that I tend to focus on Percabeth, but the next three one-shots will strictly be Frazel, Jiper, and Caleo (respectively)! :D
Winter Wonderland:
Percy, deep down, truly knew that it was an awful idea. He wasn't suicidal, and he didn't exactly want any physical (or emotional, for that matter) harm coming to himself, but he just couldn't resist waking Annabeth up for this.
He gently knocked on her cabin door, but after hearing no answer, quietly opened it and poked his head inside. The sea was calm, so Percy was alone on guard duty that night, and no one was expecting to be woken up. With only the moonlight streaming through the window to give him light, Percy spotted Annabeth sleeping soundly under the covers of her bed. Her hair was sprawled out across the pillow, and she was snoring quietly.
Percy slipped inside the room and silently shut the door behind him. After stumbling in the dark and stubbing his toe on her desk, Percy sat down softly on the edge of Annabeth's bed and gently shook her shoulder.
"Annabeth?" he whispered. No response. "Annabeth," he said a bit louder, "wake up!" His girlfriend sprang up and smacked her forehead against his, who was stupid enough to be leaning over her face. Annabeth fell back against her pillow, moaning, while Percy fell sideways until his head landed against the wall. He was pretty sure that he wasn't supposed to be seeing stars inside the cabin.
"Percy?" Annabeth groaned as her lantern came to life and illuminated the room. "Wha-did something happen?"
"No," Percy mumbled back as he sat up and rubbed is forehead. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Annabeth simply stared at him.
"I-I wanted to show you something," he continued with a smile. "I didn't think you would want to miss it." She was definitely curious now, but she suddenly frowned.
"Okay…but if you're here, who's watching the deck?" Percy stood and stretched his arms.
"Festus is awake, and I asked Rainbow to look out for anything in the water for a few minutes. So, will you-"
"Rainbow? As in, Tyson's Rainbow?" Annabeth questioned with a smile.
"Is there any other?" Percy said with a grin. "He and his buddies have been following the ship for a while, scaring off the little monsters, so he doesn't mind." Annabeth smirked.
"Okay, I'll come. Meet me in the mess hall in…five minutes?" Percy was practically bouncing at this point.
"Sure, sure"-he pecked a kiss on her cheek-"see you then!" And with that, Percy ran out of the room, with Annabeth staring after him, shaking her head.
True to her word, Annabeth strolled into the mess hall five minutes later with minty breath, slightly tamer hair, and a pair of fuzzy socks on her feet. She hadn't bothered to change out of her pajamas, which consisted of a t-shirt that she stole from Percy (oops), and soft sleep pants. Besides, they were comfortable.
Annabeth spotted Percy with his back to her, facing the main table. Buford the table was buzzing around in the air next to him.
"Ready?" Percy asked as she walked up behind him. He turned to face her with a stupid grin on his face, and she couldn't help smiling. Two steaming mugs were in his hands, brimming with hot chocolate and little marshmallows, and a big, thick, fluffy blue blanket was tucked under his arm. He handed her a mug, and she gingerly wrapped her hands around it.
"Isn't it a little too warm for hot chocolate and a blanket?" she questioned. Percy shrugged and took her free hand, but suddenly paused.
"Is that my shirt?" he asked with a smirk.
"Lead the way, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth answered, happily ignoring his question.
Percy guided her towards the stairs that led up to the main deck. Buford followed them at a distance, spewing steam. The hallway was dim, but that didn't stop Annabeth from seeing the childlike grin Percy had on his face. However, as they started climbing the stairs Annabeth's curiosity got the best of her.
"So what's so interesting on the deck that I have to see it in the middle of the night?" Percy simply hummed a noncommittal response and continued walking. Seeing that she wasn't going to get an answer, Annabeth gave up with an annoyed huff.
When they reached the door that led outside, Percy draped the blanket across her shoulders and smirked. Annabeth raised an eyebrow at him as he bowed extravagantly and held open the door. "After you, Wise Girl." Annabeth smiled and lightly elbowed him in the stomach as she quickly stepped outside.
The Argo II was a winter wonderland. Light, fluffy snow drifted lazily from the dark sky and tumbled along the deck to rest in small piles against the railings. It covered the whole outer ship and left it a sparkling white. Annabeth simply stared at the scene around her in awe. It was magical.
Festus was happily puffing small streams of fire at the snow as it floated down aimlessly from above. Annabeth watched Buford fly past her and land beside Festus, who whirred in greeting to him. She turned as Percy walked up to her side. His eyes were shining with excitement as he watched the snow fall.
"How...?" she asked in amazement as she placed her mug on the railing. Just before she went below deck to go to bed, which had been around ten that night, it had been almost uncomfortably hot outside. Now it was below freezing and frigid.
"I don't know." Percy admitted. He put his mug next to Annabeth's and took her hands in his, rubbing warmth back into them. "I wish I would have know though, I had been wearing shorts." he grumbled. "I guess it could be Khione, but this is kinda pleasant for her." Annabeth nodded thoughtfully as she pulled half of the blanket from her shoulders to share with Percy, who accepted it gratefully. The two stood together, holding hands and enjoying each other's company as they got lost in their own thoughts.
"Do you like snow?" Percy blurted out suddenly. Annabeth looked at him, surprised. He honestly looked nervous.
"Well," she started slowly. "It never snowed at camp-you know, because of the strawberries-so I really haven't been around it that much." Percy's face fell. "But I do like it. Love it, really," she added quickly as she discreetly scooped up some snow in free hand. "It's beautiful, and the perfect excuse to attack your unsuspecting boyfriend." Percy looked at her for a moment, confused, before Annabeth quickly shoved the handful of snow that she had into the back of his shirt. He jumped with a yelp and started patting his back as Annabeth ran off laughing towards the bow, dropping the blanket in the process.
"Gah-I should have seen that coming!" he called as Annabeth kept running. She skidded to a stop next to Festus and Buford, who turned her way in alarm, but she couldn't stop laughing. Annabeth looked back, but Percy and the blanket were gone. She slowly stopped laughing and blinked, puzzled.
"Percy?" she called out. A shadow suddenly fell over her head, and Annabeth looked up in time to have a small pile of snow drop on her. She quickly shook her head and brushed her face off, groaning. Something, or rather someone landed on the deck next to her with a thump.
"I deserved that." Annabeth admitted as Percy smiled at her.
"You did," he agreed, but he helped her brush the snow from her hair and re-draped the blanket around them. "I'm going to have to be treated for hypothermia after that snow-attack." Annabeth snorted as he rubbed his back, shivering.
"Thank you, by the way," she said softly. Percy grabbed their mugs and passed Annabeth's back to her.
"For what?" he asked as he sipped his hot chocolate.
"For this." she answered. "All of this. I'm glad that you woke me up." Percy smiled as he played with her hair.
"You're welcome. I was worried that you wouldn't like it." Annabeth shoved him playfully with her shoulder.
"Stop worrying so much! The war's over, we're going home, and here you are worrying about whether I like snow or not." Percy laughed.
"Alright, alright-but you should take some of your own advice. I mean, I know everything's not going to fix itself magically just because Gaea's gone, but still." Annabeth nodded and sighed. Her mood had suddenly taken a dark turn, and even the snow wouldn't cheer her up.
"Sometimes," she started, her voice thick with emotion as she looked down at the deck, "sometimes I wonder what it would be like if this was all just a dream. That I would just wake up one day into a normal life and not remember any of this, and that this part of me would just be gone." Annabeth could feel Percy's eyes on her as she continued to study the deck. She took took a deep breath and met his worried gaze.
"But then I remember the people. The people we fought for, the people we fought with, and the people who fought for us." Tears were stinging her eyes. "And I wouldn't trade it for anything." Percy engulfed her in a hug and they simply held each other, remembering.
"Please," Percy said. His voice was shaky. "Don't hide this from me anymore. I want to be here for you." Annabeth nodded against his chest, but she suddenly straightened and fiercely looked into his eyes.
"I won't hide anything if you won't." Percy gave her a smile.
"Deal."
His lips tasted like chocolate and salty tears.
...Well? Did you like it? This is my first one-shot, so please don't forget to review! :D
