Frigid air condensed around the edge of the bedroom, forming ice crystals along the walls. The ice curled as it wrapped the peeling wall paper. A chill swept through out the room, covering the stray objects on the ground in a layer of frost.
The platinum blonde sat huddled against the door, hugging her shaking body tightly. It wasn't from the cold though.
No. It was from the monster of darkness that threatened to consume her heart whole.
She bit her quivering lip and closed her Caribbean blue eyes. Despair was truly a horrible monster, one that her that her mutation could not possibly fight off.
Her parents were dead. The only people she knew her entire life besides her sister that was sent away so many years ago.
What would she do now? Where would she go?
She looked at an old picture she had on her drawer which remained untouched from the ice. It was a picture of her and her sister.
She knew what she was going to do.
"There you are!" Anna, her strawberry blonde haired friend, said with a bright smile while running up to her. It broke the platinum blonde's thoughts as she was pulled back into reality from her distant memory.
"Oh, hello Anna." She said, with a weak smile. Anna didn't seem to notice the lack of strength in it, being too happy at being around her best friend again.
"Hey Elsa!" Anna said, pulling out a Nintendo 3DS. "Guess what? I finally got Majora's Mask! I'm so excited."
"I bet you are." Elsa said, smiling a little wider. She loved being around Anna. The girl was just so energetic and optimistic it was for it not to rub off.
Not to mention, Anna was also her little sister.
A pain shot through Elsa's chest. Anna didn't know that she was her sister and Elsa had no intention of telling her. Elsa had been six when Anna had been sent away by her parents for her own protection. After their parents had died, Elsa decided to track Anna down and live in the town she was in. And lo and behold, Anna happened to be renting out her apartment at the time Elsa found her.
The rest is history.
Or so Elsa thought.
Elsa slipped the key into her door's lock and turned it, resounding a click. Opening the door, Elsa stepped aside to allow Anna in who just about bumped into her side as she was so engrossed in her game. Elsa just smiled and shook her head at her little sister's antics. After going inside, Anna tossed her school bag to the side and plopped down on the couch.
"You mind turning on the TV, Els?" Anna asked, without even looking up from her game.
"Sure." Elsa relied, pushing the power button on the remote to turn on the TV. It blinked into life with it's light emitting across the small, worn living room. A blonde haired news reporter held a mic up to her mouth and looked at the camera with a determined stare.
"I'm Dana Walsh and this is American News Network." Dana said. "I have breaking news for you which you may find hard to believe."
Elsa sat down on the couch beside Anna who was currently mashing buttons on her Nintendo. Elsa turned up the volume.
"Jasmine Sultana, a visitor from a Middle Eastern country, has attacked several American citizens. Two suffered from 1st degree burns and one with 2nd. Here is where it gets strange- eyewitnesses report that she created the fire that burned them with her hand. It may even hold truth as an officer that was there reported that she had no weapons on her or no where to hide them before hand. Regardless, America must be cautious as this might be an act of terrorism..."
Elsa tuned out the rest about the "terrorism" focused on what was said before. Her heart begin to pound.
That Jasmine girl created fire with her hand.
"It's freaky sounding right?" Anna asked her. Elsa thought she was going to be sick. "To think there are people out there with that kind of power. Something like out of a video game."
"This isn't a game Anna." Elsa snapped.
"I know," Anna responded. Then she squinted her eyebrows and observed Elsa closely. "Are you okay? You are kinda pale..."
"I'm fine." Elsa said, standing up. She needed to get out of there. Fast.
"Elsa, you look like you are going to be sick." Anna said, reaching out to grab her. Elsa snatched her arm away.
"I'm fine, Anna." Elsa said forcefully. Anna lowered her outstretched arm.
"Sorry..." Anna said.
"I-I need to go get fresh air." Elsa said, running out of the room.
"Elsa!"
Elsa clutched herself and ran. She needed to find somewhere to vent. Anywhere she wouldn't be noticed.
It had been a long time since her powers had gotten out of control like this. She had been living in content with Anna and had suffered few and far in between anxiety inducing situations over the years. So, now that she was experiences her old agitation, she wasn't sure how to deal with it.
It seemed that the more she tried to find somewhere that there wasn't people, the more she ran into the bustle of the city. She had only been living with Anna for a few months and didn't know her way around the city. She felt the air begin to chill around her and frost started to form around her feet. Please no...
She ran faster.
People started going by in blurs. Elsa felt herself become more frantic as she went along. Her pulse beat rapidly and her breathing became hastened.
And she ran faster.
She didn't see the car until it was too late.
Elsa turned and her eyes widened with horror. She was going to die.
No! Elsa thought defiantly. Instincts took over and she threw up her hands.
"What the-?!"
"The ice! Where did it come from!?"
"It was that girl! It was her!"
People started to swarm around her, all talking at once. Elsa still felt disoriented so it took her a while to process what was going on.
The car was frozen in place.
Elsa gasped and stepped back in shock. People were looking at her in terror. Her eyes scanned over the crowd and finally stopped on one person in particular.
Anna.
There was her sister, her dear, little sister, looking at her the same way. As if she was a monster. Elsa choked back a sob and stepped back. Anna must have come after her after she ran. She must've seen what had happened too. That's why Anna looked at her that way.
If people were to figure out that you are… a genome hazard then you'll surely be shunned.
Elsa's father was right. Even her sister Anna seemed to be in shock over her. Anna must hate her, fear her.
Tears in her eyes, Elsa turned and fled.
