Alarm Clock Blowout

A Jade Egilhard Story

I, Jade Egilhard, have done something so heinous, so criminal that I should be called a monster not a demigod. I became a Hall Monitor….

Okay, so it wasn't a matter of life or death but it can be quite the pain. It meant I had to be a role model to all the students, never get in trouble, and never play any pranks. I wouldn't be able to show my face near my friends in the Hermes cabin ever again! I had to figure out a way to solve this problem fast!

By the time I did find a way to earn back my good (or bad I guess you could say) name there was only a week left of school. That was fine – a week was plenty of time. So I got to know my fellow 'Do-Gooders' and realized that they, too, were itching to do something hilarious. So I called them in and asked them if they wanted to play one harmless prank before school was out.

Initiate Operation: Alarm Clock Blowout.

It was perfect! I definitely had a story to tell when I went back to camp. All of the Hall Monitors and I brought in alarm clocks – the old fashioned kind with the two bells on top so it looked kind of like Mickey Mouse. Anyway we coordinated and set them to a specific time each, then set them in our lockers and waited.

Riiiiiinnnnnnggggg!

The first clock went off right near us. Everyone in the class jumped, including me just to keep up the pretense. No one knew what to make of it. The teacher just brushed it off and continued to teach. It was only fifteen minutes later when I could faintly hear another one go off in another part of the school. The cycle continued all day with many interruptions in the teaching process. Then I heard a different sound: the Intercom.

The Principal's voice said, "All Hall Monitors please come to the front office. A Hall Monitors to the front office."

Uh-oh, I thought, we just got busted.

So I started my walk down to the Principal's office, thinking about how I was going to get myself out of this mess. I joined up with my partners in crime and we shared a silent agreement that we would not leave each other behind to fend for themselves. We were either all going down or none at all!

When we all arrived, the Principal looked at us and said, "As you're probably aware, there has been incessant ringing throughout the school –"

Riiiiiinnngggggg!

She glared at the door and continued, "I want you all to take the rest of the day off from your classes and find whoever did this. When you do, send them to me. I'll make sure they get the punishment they deserve."

As one, us Hall Monitors said, "Yes, Ma'am!" And we were dismissed. As soon as we were out of earshot, we burst into uncontrollable laughter.

So for the last week of school, we were 'searching' for the troublemakers who kept setting off the alarm clocks. Luckily for them, we were in another part of the school when one of the clocks went off.

I don't think I've ever had a better school year.
