Failing and falling

Inspirational music: "boulevard of broken dreams", Greenday. (There is this amazing Sasuke AMV for this song. Go, go and find it)
Sometimes, in the dead of night, he thinks about the people he left behind.
How they had tried to reach out to him when he had already been so far gone.
How he had been given those words of advice that he had wanted when he was seven, but had been spoken far too late to do any good.
How they had rushed after him because he was a comrade when he had freely given himself. How a group of genin's and one recently promoted chounin had faced near certain death for him and he had brushed it off.
He really was a monster. As cold and unfeeling as Itachi. But he was still here in Orochimaru's grasp, which proved he still felt something. The deep disgust for being the one that lived through that horrible night of blood shed.
Then he feels his resolve weaken, and then he thinks of how he failed his clan by being weak and he just can't have that. He thinks of his mothers dying expression. He conjures up his cousin, only two years old, that had her neck slowly squeezed by that maniac. He can't live with these images burned into his mind.
But he can't live knowing he failed people who had somehow become precious to him either.
It's a double edged sword, the worst of all.
He cuts others while cutting others.
It's a blade he's been wielding since he was seven, picked it up of the ground, been using it ever since. Cut out his heart with it.
Because you can't find what you don't have.
He later thinks that the middle of the day is dead too.

Hope this was better than my last piece of crap- I mean fiction. (note: I didn't mean for the last fic I did to be in bold. I just didn't notice it and now I can't figure out how to fix it)
No long spiel about Sasuke here. I learned my lesson.
"Those words of advice" I was referring to was when Kakashi talked to Sasuke about giving up revenge. If you noticed, it took Sasuke awhile to decide to kill his brother. But when the idea got in there, he couldn't let go. If someone had stood by him, told him revenge isn't a lifestyle. His life could have turned out differently. I secretly believe that Sasuke wanted to here those words when he was a kid, but now he's too far gone. He can't live any other way.
(That does NOT count as a Sasuke-rant!)
