~First fanfiction, I've had laying around forever so I'd thought I'd finish it and see what people think.
It's a full re-write of 'Warriors: Into The Wild' so all of it will be quite long. But I had to give is a shot!
Enjoy!~
Disclaimer: I own nothing, this is all some how rooted in the original story.
Prologue
For many moons now the homeless traveling warrior Clan, WanderClan, has been living intermixed with ThunderClan. The forest Clan who was most welcoming to their presence. In the past WanderClan had given ThunderClan much strength in return for ThunderClans' opening their home to the traveling Clan. But both Clans because of their shared lives have now fallen on hard times. With few Warriors to defend their shared borders and even fewer kits and apprentices the two Clans worry for their futures. Especially ThunderClan, but when both Clans leaders receive strange and ominous prophecies about cats to be, they wonder what the path ahead holds in store for them and their Clans.
A half-moon glowed on smooth granite boulders, turning them silver. The silence was broken only by the ripple of water from the swift black river and the whisper of the trees in the forest beyond.
There was a stirring in the shadows, and from all around lithe dark shapes crept stealthily over the rocks. Unsheathed claws glinted in the moonlight. Wary eyes flashed like amber. And then, as if on a silent signal, the creatures leaped at each other, and suddenly the rocks were alive with wrestling, screeching cats.
At the center of the frenzy of fur and claws, a massive dark tabby pinned a bracken-colored tom to the ground and drew up his head triumphantly. "Okaheart!'" the tabby growled "how dare you hunt in our territory? The Sunningrocks belong to ThunderClan!"
"You allow WanderClan to hunt here. Why should we not take what is ours?" the bracken-colored tom spat back.
A warning yowl came from the shore, shrill and anxious.
"Look out! More RiverClan warriors are coming!"
Tigerclaw turned to see sleek wet bodies sliding out of the water below the rocks. Drenched RiverClan warriors bounded silently up the shore and hurled themselves into the battle with out even stopping to shake the water from their wet fur. The dark tabby glared down at Oakheart. "You may swim like otters, but you and your warriors do not belong in this forest!" He drew back his lips and showed his teeth as the cat struggled beneath him.
The desperate scream of a ThunderClan she-cat rose above the clamor. A wiry RiverClan tom had pinned the brown warrior flat on her belly. Now he lunged toward her neck with jaws still dripping from his swim across the river. Tigerclaw heard the cry and let go of Oakheart. With a mighty leap, he knocked the enemy warrior away from the she-cat. "Quick, Mousefur, run!" he ordered, before turning on the RiverClan tom who had threatened her. Mousefur scrambled to her paws, wincing from the deep gash on her shoulder, and raced away.
Behind her, Tigerclaw spat with rage as the RiverClan tom sliced open his nose. Blood blinded him for an instant, but he lunged forward regardless and sank his teeth into the hind leg of his enemy. The RiverClan cat squealed and struggled free. "Tigerclaw!' The yowl came from a warrior with a tail as red as fox fur. "this is useless! There are to many RiverClan warriors!'
"No, Redtail. ThunderClan will never beaten!" Tigerclaw yowled back, leaping to Redtail's side. "This is our territory!" Blood was welling around his black muzzle, he shook his head impatiently, scattering scarlet drops onto the rocks.
"We can't risk it now! Even with WanderClan we are still beaten on this night!" Growled the massive black she-cat, Shadowfur, deputy of WanderClan.
Redtail nodded"ThunderClan will honer your courage, Tigerclaw, but we cannot afford to lose any more of our warriors," he urged "Neither Bluestar or Hawkstar would ever expect they're warriors to fight against such impossible odds. We will have another chance to avenge this defeat." He met Tigerclaws amber-eyed gaze steadily, then reared away and sprang onto a boulder at the edge of the trees after the already moving Shadowfur.
"Retreat,ThunderClan! Retreat, WanderClan!" They yowled together. At their once warriors squirmed and struggled away from their opponents. Spitting and snarling, they backed toward Redtail. For a heartbeat, the RiverClan cats looked confused. Was this battle so easily won? Then Oakheart yowled a jubilant cry. As soon as they heard him, the RiverClan warriors raised their voices and joined their deputy in caterwauling their victory.
Redtail looked down at his warriors. With a flick of his tail, he gave the signal and the ThunderClan cats dived down the side of the sunning rocks, then disappeared into the edge of the forest. WanderClan with them. Tigerclaw followed last. He hesitated at the edge of the forest and glanced back at the bloodstained battlefield. His face was grim, his furious slits. Then he leaped after his Clan into the silent forest.
In a deserted clearing, an old gray she-cat sat alone, staring up at the clear night sky. A very large brown tabby she-cat with a spotted cream belly came and sat silently next to her.
All around them in the shadows they could here the breathing and stirrings of sleeping cats.
A small tortoiseshell she-cat and a massive black tom emerged from a dark corner, their paw steps soft and soundless.
The gray cat dipped her head in greeting as the brown she-cat did the same. "How are Mousefur and Icetail?" meowed the gray she-cat "Mousefur's wounds are deep Bluestar." Answered the tortoiseshell, settling her self on the night-cool grass. " And Icetail's as well, Hawkstar." added the tom sitting next to the tortoiseshell. "But they are young and will heal quickly" finished the tortoiseshell she-cat.
"And the others?" Hawkstar asked
"They will all recover to."
Bluestar sighed, "we are lucky not to have lost any of our warriors this time. You are gifted medicine cats, Spottedleaf, Nightpool." Bluestar tilted her head and studied the stars again. "I am deeply troubled by tonight's defeat. ThunderClan has not been beaten in it's own territory since I became leader. Even with WanderClan at our sides.." she murmured. Sighing. "These are difficult times for ThunderClan. The season of newleaf is late, and there have been fewer kits. ThunderClan needs more warriors if it is to survive."
"Sadly WanderClan is just as weak, time is against us. I wish we could help more." Rumbled Hawkstar quietly.
"But the year is only just being." meowed Nightpool gently, both he and Spottedleaf followed Bluestar's and Hawkstar's gaze. "There will be more kits for bout our Clans when greenleaf comes." Mewed Spottedleaf.
The gray she-cat twitched her broad shoulders. "Perhaps. But training our young to become warriors takes time. If ThunderClan is to defend its territory, it must have new warriors as soon as possible."
"You have me and my Clan, Bluestar." The brown she-cat mewed softly looking at the stars like the rest of them. "And for that I am grateful Hawkstar." Bluestar answered.
The three she-cats and one tom watched the stars for a time. "Are you asking StarClan for answers?" meowed Spottedleaf softly.
"It is times like this we need the words of ancient warriors to help us. Has StarClan spoken to ether of you?"
"No, not for a time Bluestar." Mewed Nightpool softly.
"Nor me for many moons Bluestar." meowed Spottedleaf gently.
Suddenly a shooting star blazed across the sky and over the tree tops. Spottedleaf's tail witched and the fur along both medicine cats spines bristled.
Bluestar's ears pricked and Hawkstar's gaze focused on the medicine cats but they both renamed silent as the tortoiseshell she-cat and black tom continued to gaze upward.
After a few moments, Spottefleaf and Nightpool lowered their heads to look at their leaders "It was a message from StarClan," Spottedleaf murmured. Nightpool twitched his ears in agreement, they both had a distant look in their eyes. "Fire alone can save our Clan."
"Fire?" Echoed Bluestar and Hawkstar in unison "But fire is feared by all clans!" Meowed Bluestar "How can it save us?" Blurted Hawkstar.
Spottedleaf shook her head and Nightpool blinked his bright green eyes. "I do not know," Spottedleaf mewed "But this if the message StarClan has chosen to share with me. Nightpool?" "I saw the same you did." Sighed Nightpool softly.
Bluster fixed her clear blue eyes on the medicine cats "You have never been wrong before, Spottedleaf, nor you Nightpool," She meowed "if StarClan has spoken, then it must be so. Fire will save our Clan." Then Hawkstar mewed in a soft faraway voice "It seems in time fire shall save us all. Fire and Blood"
Three nights earlier:
Hawkstar lay asleep in her bramble-and-stone den at the edge of the ThunderClan-WanderClan camp. Her body looked like she was peacefully asleep, but her mind was far away in the realm of dreams.
Hawkstar found self in a carved of pit of rock at night on a full moon. Looking down at a perfectly round, still, pool that glowed white under the moon. A path rose up around the rock walls and a waterfall poured quaintly down into the pool. Hawkstar gazed at the water to see that the glimmering silver white water was streaked with stripes of blood red, like the stripes on a tabby's pelt. A voice whispered in her mind "Bathed in right-less battle and taught of peace by a shadow the blood-marked one will be the one to guide them, to guide us."
The dream faded, but not those words.
Little did Hawkstar know at the time that another message would be sent three days hence when a shooting star passed over her. In it she saw a leader of her Clan, a snow white cat with blood red stripes. The Blood-Marked.
