Okay guys, here it is... My first Heroes fic. Or maybe rather mini-fic. I just couldn't help myself after watching this episode. Enjoy and remember that I own nothing (although I wanna hug Peter). Also, special thanks to GoldSeven for pinpointing me a few of my mistakes, you rock, G7!

Caution: spoilers for episode 3x19 "Shades of Gray".

SOLACE

The phone rang.

It was Noah, of course, warning her about Danko. As if she hadn't suspected that she would be the first one he would point out for Nathan's Hunter. It was painfully obvious that once her older son antagonized Danko, the situation would become difficult. But it had to be done. All would be so much easier without him.

The man almost killed Peter. She felt fury rising in her, at the mere thought of the pain her youngest must have gone through, both physical and emotional. The wound wasn't a serious one, she knew, although Peter would be in pain for at least several more days, but the what scared her most was the look in his eyes she'd seen him giving his older brother.

Disillusionment. Anger. Hate. She felt sad for a moment. Peter was so much like her… So much like she was years ago. She remembered her breaking moment and this made her feel for Peter even more. If they were so much alike… Would that mean he would become the way she was right now?

She shuddered. That was the fate she wouldn't wish on her greatest enemy. Living in a lie, holding secrets, using people as pawns… It was her life. It wouldn't , it couldn't be Peter's if she had anything to say about this.

Her hand unconsciously went to her purse and withdrew them. Her little source of solace. They made her feel a bit more normal, not that anything she had ever done had been normal, mind you. It was just a simple fact she had discovered: when her mind felt too heavy with all the thoughts, questions and lies, she had to do something simple, something uncomplicated… Something with odd colors. It would help her momentarily forget about all complications.

The texture was so soft and nice when she first took them in her hands in the shop and hid in her purse, long time ago. It was soft now, when she caressed them.

Angela Petrelli nuzzled the odd-colored socks and for the first time in weeks she felt peaceful.
