Friday Night Detention Getting to Ya?
Professor McGonagall sighed as she took a seat on one of the couches in the teacher's lounge.
"Long day, eh Minerva?" Asked Professor Kettleburn as he wrapped what looked like a very nasty burn.
"You have no idea," Professor McGonagall responded, pouring herself a cup tea. "I've just spent an hour long detention with James Potter." The other teachers in the room grimaced sympathetically. Little Professor Flitwick shuddered.
"But that isn't the half of it. He spent half of the time he should have been writing his essay looking in that mirror he carries around in his bag." McGonagall went on.
"Sirius Black was doing the same thing in his detention with me last week," Professor Kettleburn said, shaking his head in disbelief.
"They really are a sad lot," said Flitwick. The others nodded.
"You know, if they just paid attention more they could go so much farther," Professor Binns said, speaking at last.
"James would do so much better if he would pay attention in class instead of starring at that Lily Evans," Professor Sinstra said with a chuckle. Almost the whole room rolled their eyes.
"But you must admit it is rather adorable," Professor Sprout said. Several of the female teachers tried to suppress smiles.
"He is sickeningly taken with her," Professor Knot shuddered.
"And no wonder," McGonagall stated. "She's the cleverest witch in her year."
"Very kind too," Professor Sinstra added.
"The perfect twin to that Lupin boy," said Madam Pince. "They are both in the library for hours on end. Studying away."
"Well that's not the only place Lupin spends his time," Sinstra reminded them. "He's had his fare share of detentions as well, you must remember."
"Nonetheless, they'll both go far," Flitwick proclaimed. The room quieted a bit.
"Well, Evans will at least," Knot said with a smirk.
"I worry about that Pettigrew though," Kettleburn said with a frown.
"And with good reason," McGonagall said, to the agreement of several teachers.
"Prewitt seems to be doing excellently well though," said Flitwick. "As usual."
"As are Abbot and Stebbins," said Sprout. "Though Stebbins doesn't seem to think so of himself. So unsure of themselves at times."
"Well," McGonagall said with a knowing smile. "Most of them are exceptionally bright; Evans, Prewitt, Snape, Lupin, Black, Abbot. Black and Potter as well, despite their laziness."
"Well there are certain rewards to being a teacher," said Kettleburn.
"Excluding the detentions and complaining students, I'm assuming?" Knot chuckled.
"Yes," McGonagall agreed. "We get to watch them grow up. See what they do with their lives…"
"It makes you wonder how they will all turn out," said Professor Sprout with a sigh.
"Oh, no doubt they will change the world," Sinstra smiled fondly.
No doubt.
