A New Problem

Matthias was searching for a good place to nap on a lazy summer afternoon. It was warm and sunny, a beautiful day in Redwall Abbey. Cheerful birds sang through the cool summer breeze. The orchard trees were laden with fruits and the cellar full of dark, cool drinks to enjoy.
" What a beautiful place I live in" thought Matthias while looking for a good place to rest. Suddenly, he spotted a large oak, with huge leafy branches, providing plenty of shade. It would do perfectly!
He walked slowly towards the tree, thinking of what he would do after his idle, afternoon nap. He curled up at the bottom of the tree and had an eerie, sick feeling wash over him. Something was not right.
Matthias heard a hiss that chilled his blood to ice. Asmodeous! But how, he was dead, killed by the great sword of Martin the Warrior!
Matthias twisted his head around and saw a horrible sight; the entrancing eyes of the killer adder. Immediately he whipped his head around and furiously looked for any kind of weapon. He was not quick enough. The adder had curled his strong, sinewy body around him.
Asmodeous positioned his head so the mouse would either look into his luminous eyes or keep them shut and be crushed by the snake's wrath.
Matthias foolishly opened his eyes and fell under the great snakes spell.
" Come, little mouse. See my eyes? They are pools of eternity. Let me give you the kissss of eternal sssleep, little one.
At that moment, a great, but gentle voice called out to Matthias.
" I am that is, why do you sit? Strike back against this evil beast!"
By this time, the adder had waited long enough. With a hiss of triumph, he bit into our great warriors neck.
Instantly, Matthias's limbs went limp and seared with pain. His eyes became cloudy and his lips began to swell.
" I am that is! You have failed."
With a gasp, Matthias woke from his terrible nightmare, soaked in ice-cold sweat.
" Oh Matti, I thought you would never wake. You were thrashing like a fish on land. I thought you were having seizures!" Cornflower's voice was shrill and strained with worry. Obviously, he was just as scared, as the dream was scary.
Matthias grasped Cornflower's soft paw.
" I am alright. I had a terrible dream about the return of Asmodeous. He bit me, and then Martin told me I had failed. That was one of the worst thing's to happen to me, ever! Dream or not."
"It's over, Matthias," said Cornflower, giving a soft cloth to wipe the sweat off his brow, while gently stroking his fur.
A sudden noise made both of them jump. Constance had burst into the room.
" Are you up Matthias? This is extremely urgent! Asmodeous had been spotted again! Captain Snow saw him slithering around the south end of the quarry."
Matthias gasped. His dream had come true!
