Summary: They all used to believe in that moment, to chase the moment even though they knew they couldn't catch it. They followed the moment, watching it, and finally, they fell.
There once was a moment in which Sakura believed in true love.
There once was a moment in which Sasuke believed in true happiness.
There once was a moment in which Naruto believed in true family.
All three of them watched that moment waltz away in front of their own eyes, as though testing them, mocking them, teasing them. Letting them know that no matter what they did in life, that moment would always linger just out of their reach, possessing what they each wanted.
And after three years of chasing that moment, finding the one who possessed their beloved moment, they fell.
One fell to torture of a tormented soul. Nowhere to turn, live, hide. It broke him, but he always picked back up the pieces. Inside, his soul was empty. He was nothing more than a walking shell, and finally, one day, the torture was too much. He fell to the hands of emptiness.
One fell to a kunai in his chest, his breath leaving him in amounts the dying one never thought possible. He fell while fighting for honor, pride, and dignity. He fell to restore the power to his clan. He fell fighting the one he hated most.
One fell to a broken heart. No one to live for, no one to die for. She barely got by each day, and that was enough to crush her soul every night. Inside, she had no soul left, outside, she had a kunai plunged through her heart. She fell to both of the things that the former fell to. She fell to the torture of a tormented soul, and fell fighting the one she hated most.
It was purely a coincidence they all fell the same day. A coincidence their funerals were held at the same time. A coincidence that they were all found by the ones they loved the most.
It was a pure coincidence that Kakashi heard them laughing in his office the day after they fell. They were laughing together, as though they were reminiscing the past. Looking forward to the future.
They were laughing, as though they had caught their moment.
Never before would they have found each other if it was not for that lingering, teasing moment they all chased after.
They were all thankful for it.
