So Not His Area
Jack furrowed his brows as he concentrated on the task at hand. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He swallowed hard. This was so not his area of expertise. It was his wife's. Give him a squadron of Jaffa any day. That he could cope with. This, not so much.
He picked up his required tools and gazed at them as though he had never seen them before. He had in fact seen them on many occasions but he had never used one of them.
"Focus, O'Neill, you can do this," he muttered to himself. "Just focus."
"Jack?" Sam asked curiously as she entered the living room.
"Shh!" he hissed as he held up one hand in her direction. "I'm concentrating."
"Okay," she laughed as she settled herself against the doorframe. This she had to see.
"This would be so much easier if you weren't standing there watching," he grumbled.
"I'm not missing this," she laughed.
"Right, focus," he told himself again. "One step at a time."
Jack put his tools down and took another deep breath. He gathered the main product in his hands and picked up one of his tools again.
Never in his life did he think tying his daughters hair in a ponytail would be so hard.
He was just glad she was sitting quietly and patiently waiting for him to practice while she coloured. And he knew, a lot of practice was needed.
