Reminiscing Through the Language of Flowers
"You always manage to find the time to visit me, Marui-kun," Tachibana An giggled as she gazed at the redhead beside her. The latter only rested his face on his left palm, ignoring her statement.
"I brought you some flowers," Marui told her, placing the bouquet near the girl. She could only giggle at his actions.
"You can never sway anyone if you give them flowers with such a blank and aloof expression," She told him as she got the flowers and rested them on her lap, "Yellow Tulips? That's new."
Marui leaned on the apricot blossom tree behind them, a little bit exasperated at her interrogations. "Gomen. The zinnias weren't available."
She sighed as she leaned her head on Marui's shoulder. "Still not over it, Marui-kun?"
"Maybe."
"How are the others?"
"You mean Akaya?" Marui asked nonchalantly. "He's trying his best to concentrate on tennis. He keeps on telling me you're refraining him from practicing well, though."
"I've always loved zinnias," An muttered, trying to change subjects as she twirled the tulips in her hands, "They make me remember all of you guys, even though you're all far away from me. Zinnias remind me of the good times we had, before."
Marui kept silent as he listened to every word that came out of her lips.
"You can't sulk forever, you know. You should live your life to the fullest. Don't go waste it on crying just because you're hopeless about one wee little thing."
"That's easy for you to say," He quipped, promptly closing his eyes as he filled his head with thoughts of the very person beside him.
Silence fell upon them as the apricot blossoms danced with the calming spring breeze.
"Musings of friends, that's what a zinnia reflects. They fill your heart with thoughts of the people dear to you. Those who've been there for you in times of need," An paused for a while as she briskly thought of how to continue, "Somehow, it makes you forget your problems, even for just a little while."
No words came out of his mouth.
"Whilst, yellow tulips mirror hopeless love," An turned to him and gave him a painful smile, "It wasn't a very good idea to bring these here, Marui-kun."
Marui Bunta opened his eyes and turned to Tachibana An, only to realize the girl was nowhere to be found. Tears suddenly rolled down from his eyes, and he was unable to relinquish them from trickling and revealing his aching emotions. Hugging his knees tight, his gaze shifted from the yellow tulips scattered beside him to the solemn gravestone planted right in front of him.
The spring breeze blew away the apricot blossoms, as well as the yellow tulips he had brought.
"Gomen. An-chan, I just can't get over it…"
