On a quest for fairies
I don't own anything.

"Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream"
There's something ghastly about hearing such a song when it's sung quietly, especially in a deadpanned voice, especially if you happen to be in a boat, especially out on a calm and quiet lake, especially when the fog makes it impossible to see farther than a couple of meters away from said boat.
Why this long rant about how unnerving such a song can be in such a specific situation?
Simple. Haruhi had decided that the Brigade should search for fairies – you know, the kind that are said to dance in the morning mists out on the fields – of course there was no one that decided to voice an opinion on the matter, well there was one but she never listens to me, thus we find ourselves somewhere out on a lake in the middle of some disturbingly dense fog.
The singing is, as you might have guessed, done by the club's resident alien Nagato.
As for the exact reason? Haruhi told her to.
Why? Something to do with 'setting the right atmosphere'. It was difficult to pay attention to her since at that moment I was grumbling to myself about who Haruhi decided were supposed to row the damn boat. Take a guess. Of course, who but me could be forced to do such a task of menial labor.
"Merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream"
Mikuru is sitting at the back of the boat and was somehow able to pull of looking both amazed and slightly terrified at the situation we were in.
Koizumi was smiling like always, I would like to smack him but I'll have to do it some other time, my arms hurt.
Nagato is sitting between the two of them, singing, expressionless as always.
And finally, Haruhi is leaning over the front of the boat, which is a pleasant change since that means it's harder for her to complain about the boat not moving fast enough, not that she doesn't manage it anyway, it just seems to be harder considering she isn't as quite as noisy as she was when we set out.
"Damn it Kyon! You're not rowing fast enough! They'll get away if you keep rowing so damn slow!"
I doubt whether I row fast or slow is going to make much of a difference when they'll be able to hear us from a mile away the way you're shouting.
"I'm only shouting cause you're not rowing fast enough!"
Brilliant reasoning there Haruhi. Why are we even out on the lake, don't the fairies usually show up on fields or meadows?
"They've been able to hide from people searching for them there for centuries, so we're going with a surprise attack over the water!"
It doesn't seem as much of a surprise attack considering that we probably alerted them of our plans by shouting about it loudly while we're still in the midst of completing it.
As I meet her eyes, hair yanking is involved in this process, and wonder to myself at how she is able to glare like that. I mean, sure I've been glared at a couple of times over the years, usually they were Haruhi's fault by the way, but it's really like her eyes of burning coals or something. Terrifying as it is to be subjected to it, the glare actually suits her in a way.
As such thoughts race through my head, Haruhi decides that I have suffered enough under her glare and let go of my scalp, probably because I can't really row properly when I'm stuck in that awkward position.
Needless to say, Nagato has continued to sing during the entirety of our conversation. It kind of gets an your nerves after a while, the song will be stuck in my head for weeks if this keeps up.

We didn't find anything. Not that I'm surprised in the least by this, I just thought that I should point it out.
And yes the song was stuck in my brain for several days afterwards, but it really couldn't compare to the muscle ache I had acquired through rowing the damn boat in zigzag patterns around the lake because 'it's more unpredictable that way', that girl really pisses me off sometimes.
