That's what Logan is. A human with some disease. When Logan was younger he thought girls were icky and had cooties like every other little boy. But as the other boys started to feel an attraction towards girls, Logan started to feel an attraction towards boys. Everyone knew Logan was gay, well everyone except his parents. He had tried to tell them plenty of times, but they would never listen...
Logan jumped out of his skin when he heard the front door open and close. His eyes widened as he heard his parents talking. He glanced at the clock, and realized his parents were actually home at nine o'clock. They were home while he was awake. He smiled.
"Logan sweetie, we're home!" his mother called up the stairs. Logan was about to go greet them, but then he remembered his hand and the broken mirror.
"Be down in a second!" he called as he rushed to the bathroom to clean up the broken glass. He picked it up and threw it away. He washed his swollen hand and wrapped it in gauze. After he was sure everything was cleaned up, he went down stairs.
"Hi mom and dad." he said giving his mom a hug.
"I hope you don't have a girl hiding up there." his father chuckled giving his son a light punch on the shoulder. His mom rolled her eyes and Logan inwardly groaned.
"Hush. But, seriously, when are we going to meet your girlfriend?" his mom asked. This time he audibly sighed.
"I don't have one." he replied blandly. They always went through the same conversation every time...
"Well that's okay. Your a cute boy, I'm sure you'll meet her soon." she gushed pinching his cheek slightly while his father ruffled his hair. Logan took a deep breath. He always just said 'okay' and walked away, but this time he was going to tell them. Last time he told them, his parents made him go to therapy for three years...
"Mom, I don't like girls. I like boys." Logan felt childish using the words 'girl' and 'boy', but he wanted to make what he was saying as clear as possible. His mother inhaled sharply and looked away from him. His father put his hands on his wife's shoulders and tried to console her. She looked pale and tears threatened to fall down his face. His father looked up at him with disgust written on his face.
"I think you should go to your room until...until this passes over," his father said sternly before turning back to his wife. There it is again.
Gayness: a disease that just 'passes over' like the flu.
Logan gave his parents a dirty look before returning to his room. He flooped down onto his bed and let out a frustrated scream. He beat his fist into his pillow until his hurt hand became too painful. Tears cascaded down his face and he silently cried.
How was anyone supposed to accept him when his own parents couldn't? That last thought that went through Logans mind before he fell asleep was that at least he got to do the only thing he loved tomorrow. Volunteer at the hospitals pediatric oncology unit.
