Authors note: This is an alternate ending to One Against An Army, and has some references to the episodes ITADITH and Callisto. No harm was meant by this fic, I simply did it for entertainment purposes. Also this is one of my first attempts at Xena:Wp fanfiction, and is my first post of one of them. Review if ya want, comments are welcome, just don't flame me please, I know it's not that good but I tried. Well here it goes.
Too Late
Xena wet her finger tips with the antidote and placed them on the pale girl's lips.
"Come on Gabrielle, I got the serum. You're going to be ok. Gabrielle?"
The bard was not responding to her touch. She lifted the younger woman into her arms and poured the healing liquid into her mouth.
"Come on Gabrielle. Please sallow. You need to get this into you."
But it didn't matter what the warrior did, the serum just trickled out of the bard's mouth It wasn't long before the almost imperceptible rise and fall of the bard's chest became non-existent.
"No," the warrior said in a voice barely above a whisper. "No, no, no!" She had a sudden flashback to their visit to Thessaly during the Mitoan- Thessalian war. Gabrielle had died then, but she had come through. Gabrielle fought it and survived. It would be no different this time. She had come through so much. It couldn't end like this, not when Xena had managed to get the antidote.
She came back to reality with a start and looked down at her pale, lifeless companion.
"Gabrielle, please, you gotta wake up, come on, you gotta stay with me. I can't do this on my own! I once promised you that if anything ever happened...to you...I wouldn't become a monster, but I don't know that I'll be able to...please Gabrielle, wake up. I need you."
The tears fell down the ex-destroyer of nations cheeks unheeded while she rocked her the small, limp body of her fallen companion in her arms.
"You can't leave me! No! It's not fair! Everyone I get close to leaves me, you can't too! Come back...I-I love you Gabrielle..."
Finally Xena stopped speaking, but continued to rock the body of the woman that, up until a short time before, had been the best friend she could ever ask for, and so much more than she deserved. Xena held onto her partner for many long candle marks, just letting the tears fall, and giving into the sobs that wracked her muscular frame.
Gabrielle was dead. And Xena had just died inside.
Well that's it, sucked didn't it. Oh well. I can only say I did my best. I'll more than likely fix this and re-post it eventually anyway.
