Don't own "Lie to Me." Bummer.

His look was dark and intense as he stared at her. Anger rippled beneath the surface.

She just couldn't bear to have him hate her. Tears slid down her face as she explained her reasons. " I couldn't let it happen Cal. You would never have let it go. You would have lost everything!" Gillian stepped closer, begging him to understand.

His face slowly shifted. The thinly disguised anger faded, replaced by tenderness. "S'okay luv. I forgive you." He reached out and folded her into his arms. She went willingly, nestling her face into the crook of his neck, arms around his back. It occurred to her, not for the first time, how well they fit together. Unconsciously, she tightened her arms around him.

Cal gave a low grunt of pain and she immediately pulled away. "Cal, what's wrong?"

He smiled at her concern. Always the mother. "Bruised ribs. Feds kicked the crap outta me."

"How bad? Let me see." Gillian helped him off with his coat and deftly unbuttoned his shirt. She gasped when she saw the extent of the bruising. "Oh my God Cal! You really need to go to the hospital. You could easily have some cracked - "

Startled, she stopped suddenly. He had grown very still. "I'm so sorry Cal. I shouldn't have –"

Her wide blue eyes met his, worried that she'd overstepped. His eyes were still dark but they held something new. Indecision, desire and…. love? She felt herself flush. She needed to step away. She knew she had to. Couldn't. The line was blurring.

Gillian reached out and gently touched his bare chest. She could feel his heart beating fast. Almost in perfect synch with her own. Their gazes stayed locked. The indecision in his hazel eyes was quickly being replaced by a raw hunger.

She trembled slightly as he gently cupped her face in his hands and leaned forward. His lipped brushed hers tentatively, seeking permission. When he received no opposition, he deepened the kiss.

Gillian melted into him, essentially throwing caution to the wind. She wrapped her arms around his neck, playing gently with his hair. She explored his mouth with hers, giving his lower lip a playful nibble while he'll he let out a low groan and pushed harder against her.

With a grimace, he suddenly broke contact. She opened her eyes to see clamped shut. He had visibly whitened.

"Cal!"

He leaned his forehead against hers, eyes slowly cracking open. He gave her a rueful smile. "Well, darlin'. As much as I would love to pursue this wonderful little adventure", his voice was low, accent thick, "I'm not sure I'm going to be much good for ya. How 'bout that ride to hospital?"

Cal leaned against her on the way to the parking garage. Probably more than he needed to. She knew but she didn't mind.
