Weeks
written by ameo

It had been weeks since James had started to ask her out. Exactly three weeks since he asked her out by the lake in front of the crowd of students.

He had blurted it out ("Go ahead Evans, go out with me, and I'll never leave a wand on ole Snivelly again."), but not in that kind and wanting way she had imagined in her dreams. It was almost a desperate plea.

But no, Severus is her best friend--was her best friend. She often forgets to use the past tense when it came to him. Still...why did James have to pick on him?

The main question on Lily's mind, however, was why someone like James would want to ask her out in the first place. In fact, if she did recall, she had only spoken to James less than ten times so far during her education. How could he develop a fancy towards her when they barely spoke at all?

And besides, she wasn't anything special. She was a girly, smart, funny girl who loved to spend her evenings reading. She was just Lily Irene Evans. The below-average fifteen year old girl.

So why would James ask me out anyway?

It was strange, Lily decided. It was very strange indeed.

She wouldn't go out with him anyway. He was too full of himself, and she didn't want to go out with someone who thought he was better than everyone else.

But then another strange thing happened, about three weeks and two days in, Lily noticed how his upper lip would become slightly smaller when he smiled. And it scared her so much that she came to wonder why she would notice something like that in the first place. And then she laughed at herself for over-thinking; she was probably being over-observant like she always was.

It was three weeks and two days in when James Potter caught Lily Evans' eye. She just didn't know it then.
