Rain poured down in sheets on Domino City. Thunder boomed in the distance, slowly crawling its way through the sky. Wind whistled through the high rises and trees, giving voice to its strength. In simple terms, it was not a night for any mortal to be out.

But Yami no Yuugi had not been mortal for centuries, perhaps he had never been; it was all smoke and mirrors to him now. He was left to do a task, the one thing he remembered, and he planned to do that task tonight.

Yuugi hated him for sentencing people to death with games, going so far as to ban his "other self" from ever doing such a thing again. Yuugi was stupid in that way, even though Yami would never voice it. He could do imaginable things to Yuugi if he wanted, it would not take much effort on his part.

Unfortunately a good body only comes around once every so often.

So here he was, Yami no Yuugi, walking through downtown Domino City, the Eye to his soul burning brightly on his forehead almost to a point of pain. Rain sliced through his transparent form, trying desperately to batter him down. He would never tell Yuugi that he was not completely attached to the Sennen Puzzle, for he liked having the Puzzle intact and functional. Yami chuckled at the thought; it was going to be a good night, a great night if he found a sinner waiting to be judged.

"Amazin'! I thought us Judges were all but extinct!" an excited voice said behind Yami, startling him for a moment.

Turning, Yami assessed him silently. "I would guess that we aren't."

"I guess not. Jesus Christ you look ancient, Egyptian I assume? You're kinda far away from the homeland aren't ya? Ah, anyways, mind if I walk with ya? It's mighty lonely out here," the Judge asked with fervour, fidgeting with his robes distractedly.

"Whatever you want to do," Yami replied, beginning to walk down the street again.

The Judge fell into to step beside Yami, continuing to fidget with various parts of his robe. Yami eyed him, he looked vaguely familiar. Memories flickered before his eyes, Yuugi's memories. So his partner knew him, he might as well find out who this was while it still nagged at his—Yuugi's— memory.

"Jounouchi Katsuya."

"Wha—?"

"That's who you are, isn't it?"

The Judge—Jounouchi—stopped dead, eyes wide. He looked sick. "It's not my time to go, is it? I just started—I really don't want to hang out beyond the Door yet. Ya know, it'll be gre—at and all—"

"I know a friend of yours."

Jounouchi wiped his hand across his forehead in relief, returning back into his habit of fidgeting with his robes, trying to get them straight again. "Oh, phew, I thought I was a goner there. Really, don't freak me out like that, man."

He started to laugh with relief, before Yami's last statement clicked in his head. "...A friend of mine? They're not gettin' judged are they?"

Yami smirked, "No, I just happen to know one of them personally."

"Heh, that's great I suppose," Jounouchi said doubtfully, scratching his head.

"May I ask why it is that you're a Judge?"

"Shit happened."

"I see," Yami replied.

They walked together in silence after that, rain still poured down, the thunder replaced with bolts of lightning. The night wore on, black skies turned to grey.

Broken bodies littered the alleyways; their lifeless eyes greeting the morning.

It had been a great night.
