"Haydyn, can you please come downstairs." I heard my father call to me clearly not giving a choice.
I walked out of my room and down the hall to the top of the stairs. I saw Nick at the bottom and he was not his usual perky self. I heard a fast heart beat that belonged to a human coming from the living room and when I took in the scent I noticed it was my girlfriend Chloe. My family didn't know I was dating her and they can't find out. Crap.
I did my fastest human pace down the stairs and walked into the living room.
"Chloe, what are you doing here?" I asked her ignoring the look I was getting from my older brother Clay and my dad.
"You let me borrow your Biology notebook. I was just returning it." She told me and was about to hand me my notebook, but Clay took the notebook out of her hands.
I glared at him and muttered a thank you to Chloe.
"I think it's time for you to leave now. Thank you for bringing the notebook by." My dad told Chloe and he led her out the door.
Chloe was out of earshot and off our property when I started talking.
"You didn't have to be such a dick to her!" I yelled at him raising my voice.
"YOU COULD HAVE EXPOSED US! WHAT IF ONE OF US WAS SHIFTING OUTSIDE AND SHE SAW!" Clay yelled at me.
"YOU MEAN LIKE WITH WHAT HAPPENED TO ELENA!" I yelled at Clay causing him to clench his teeth in anger.
I knew I had taken in too far with Elena and for some reason I didn't feel bad. Dad ignored the Elena comment and started to talk.
"Clay's right you know. This was a dangerous move. What if you had been outside shifting and she saw, how do you think she would react? Not very well. Now go upstairs and finish your homework." Dad told me disappointed while shaming me.
"This is so unfair." I muttered taking my notebook from Clay and running upstairs before anyone could say anything else.
I closed my bedroom door behind me and locked it. I threw my notebook on my desk and sat down in my desk chair. They were being so unfair. I mean they only worry about people coming around because Clay brought Elena here and she saw dad shift and in the end Clay bit her and she turned into a werewolf. Clay brought Elena here on purpose. How was I supposed to know Chloe was coming around? I mean seriously it's not like I was looking for trouble. Plus Chloe won't find out I'm a werewolf because I am not going to shift ever again. That was my plan.
That night I stayed in my room and I woke up five minutes before the bus was coming, so I got ready quickly and grabbed my bag running downstairs. I heard someone call my name, but I ignored it and ran outside and to the bus stop which was about a mile away. I made the bus and when I got on I went to the back and Chloe got on at the second bus stop. She walked to the back and sat in the seat beside me.
"Hey." She told me smiling.
"Hey, I'm sorry about yesterday. My family doesn't really like company when they aren't told they are coming ahead of time, so they totally freaked, but everything's fine now." I told her.
"Sorry I caused commotion." She told me and frowned.
"Don't worry about it." I told her and the bus pulled into the school lot.
When I got into my first period I felt my phone buzz. When the teacher looked away I took it out of my pocket and pressed the home button. I saw it was a text from Clay. I put my phone back in my pocket and ignored the text not bothering to read it.
When it was lunch time I met up with Chloe and two of my two good friends named Will and Troye. We sat at our usual lunch table and started to eat. When we were done I walked to my locker with Chloe.
"So, you wanna come to Jayce's party tonight with me?" She asked me.
"I have to ask my dad. We might have plans or something." I told her getting my books and closing my locker.
"He'll never let you come. Live a little Haydyn. Your daddy isn't always going to be there making all the decisions for you. Please come with me." She told me begging.
"Fine. I'll go." I told her and embraced her in a hug.
She smiled to me then kissed me quick and walked to her next class.
I grinned and walked to my next class.
When school was over I walked to my locker and put my books inside grabbing my backpack. I walked out to the side of the school where the busses park. I didn't see my bus, so I walked near the back, but this time only saw the school bully Charlie and his friend named Alec.
"Hello, Danvers, long time no beat." He told me slamming me into a wall.
"Let me go." I told him and he just laughed at me.
"Or what Danvers? Your big brother isn't here to protect you this time. What are you going to do about it?" He said taunting me and his friend came from behind him and kicked me in the stomach.
I felt my ribs crack on one side and the kept punching and kicking me.
They ran away when a bus pulled up to the curb. I heard the last school bell ring and the halls filled with students. I used all my strength and grabbed my bag. I slowly got up and went to my bus. By the time I sat down my eyes were full of tears and I felt like I was going to pass out. I suddenly felt my body trying to shift. I fought the shift as much as I could and when the bus stopped at my stop I grabbed my bag and slowly got off the bus. Every step was agony, but I made it to our property line. I had to take breaks on the walking, but eventually made it to the house. I heard everyone downstairs in the basement, so I walked up slowly to my room hoping no one heard me. I closed my door behind me and I changed into black sweat pants and a maroon tee shirt. I was completely exhausted and still in pain, so I laid down on my bed and eventually fell asleep. When I woke up I felt someone hitting me with a pillow over and over again. I felt a small sting on the right side of my eye and when I opened my eyes I saw it was Nick and Peter was standing in the doorway laughing.
"Stop." I told him tired and annoyed.
"It's almost dinner time and holy shit what the hell happened to your face? Are you okay?" He asked me concerned.
I sat up.
"I'll be down in a minute." I told them and Peter nodded. I ignored Nick's question.
"Hey, if something happened you can tell us. Any of us, you know that. Oh and Clay wants to talk to you." Nick told me and they walked out of my room closing the door behind them.
"Great." I muttered to myself.
I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Chloe telling her I would be there tonight at the party if I didn't get caught sneaking out. I deleted the text after I sent it.
I didn't want anyone finding out I was going to be sneaking out tonight.
I looked into the mirror and saw my right side of my face was purple and blue. I sighed and shook my head. I pulled my shirt up and saw a big bruise over my left ribcage, but knew it was healing and I would be fine. I got into the shower, taking a quick one, and when I got out I changed into maroon skinny jeans and a dark grey hoodie that said lacrosse with my number on the back. I dried my hair and did it how I did it normally and then slipped on some black socks over my feet. My body still ached a little, but nothing I couldn't tolerate. I opened my door and went to the bathroom Elena used outside her room. I grabbed her powder and covered up the black eye. Thank god the makeup was odorless and was my skin tone or else everyone else would find out other than Nick and Peter obviously. I also didn't want Chloe to find out tonight.
I walked downstairs and at the bottom of the steps was Clay. He just stared at me and I slowly walked down the stairs. I was at the bottom and was about to turn towards the kitchen when Clay grabbed my arm and pulled me in the direction he was.
"What?" I asked him annoyed.
"We need to talk." He told me.
"No we don't." I told him.
I walked into the kitchen and everyone sat down to eat dinner.
While we were eating Elena kept looking at me.
"What?" I asked her and she looked down at her plate.
"It's nothing." She told me whispering.
I glared at her and Clay growled low at me.
"Knock it off." Dad told Clay and I.
Dinner was finished soon after and I went downstairs to where dad was reading our history for fun.
"Hey buddy. What can I do for you?" Dad asked me not looking up from his book.
"Can I borrow your mutt stats?" I asked him.
"Sure, they are over there." He told me nodding over to the bookshelf in front of him.
"Who are you looking for if I may ask?" Dad asked me curious.
"Found it. Thanks." I told him running upstairs.
When everyone was asleep I put my shoes on quietly and jumped out of my window. I made it to where the party was at. I walked around to find Chloe and when I spotted her she was making out with Charlie. She looked up at me and looked back at Charlie. I could feel her panic, but I didn't care. She's cheating on me with the guy that beats me up. Great.
I turned towards the front door and walked out. I could hear Chloe call my name, but I was too hurt to care.
I ran into the woods and towards Stone Haven. I hit our property line and started to walk from there. I felt the anger coursing through me and to let some of it out I punched a tree and it broke over in half letting a loud thump to the ground.
I roared out in anger and punched another tree that broke over in half like the first.
Why did she do this! Did she even consider how I would feel!? WHAT THE HELL!
I punched tree after tree until I couldn't see through the tears in my eyes.
I stayed out there all night until the sun was about to come up. I ran back to Stone Haven and jumped up to my room. I got into my shower and when I was done I put on black skinny jeans, black t-shirt that had Nike on it, and my black Adidas High tops. My wounds had healed, so I didn't have to cover anything with makeup. I did my hair and when I was done I went to my bed and grabbed my phone. I had three hundred and something texts from Chloe and 24 missed calls. I deleted her texts and before I could delete her number her caller ID popped up on the screen saying she was calling. I pressed the ignore button and I then deleted her number along with blocking her.
I put my phone in my front pocket and walked out of my room and downstairs to where Antonio was cooking breakfast. In the middle of breakfast, the doorbell rang. Dad went to answer the door and Clay followed him. I grabbed my glass of water and went to take a drink when I heard Chloe's voice.
"Can I please speak to Haydyn?" Chloe asked my Dad.
I felt my body fill with anger and I accidently squeezed the glass too hard making it shatter in my hand.
I growled.
I felt my body start to shift and I started to panic. I looked at Nick petrified.
"Nick get him downstairs. Now." Antonio told Nick and he grabbed me and pulled me downstairs.
Nick put me in the training cage and locked it from the outside. I felt more waves of pain and in a second it went away and I was in my wolf form.
I snarled at Nick as he backed away from the cage.
"You need to calm down." Nick told me.
I snapped at him and ran at the bars.
I could hear Chloe talking to Clay upstairs and she was telling him what happened. That I had snuck out to a party. She told him I got jealous over her cousin hugging her and I ran off, that wasn't even true! She was driving me insane.
I howled out in anger and the next thing I knew Chloe was running down our basement stairs and Clay and my dad were trying to stop her, but she was staring right at me. I snarled at her and she didn't seem fazed by it.
"You have a pet wolf?" She whispered and came near the cage.
"His name is Trouble, but it fitting because he's not friendly with people, but we're trying to train him. Haydyn is out right now. Let me show you out and we will have Haydyn call you later when he comes home." Dad told her.
I jumped at the cage and snarled at Chloe. Nick snatched her backwards and away from the cage.
"Thank you and I think I should go. Bye Trouble." She said and dad walked her up the stairs.
Even when Chloe was gone I still kept ramming against the bars. Dad came back down the stairs and Antonio, Clay, and Nick followed him.
"Haydyn that is uncalled for. Shift back right now before you hurt yourself." Dad told me and I ignored him and kept ramming the bars.
"NOW Haydyn. I AM NOT GIVING YOU A CHOICE. THIS IS AN ORDER." Dad told me angry.
"Antonio." Dad said and I saw a black box in the corner of my eye that Antonio was holding.
"Jeremy maybe we should give him some space. Clearly he's upset about whatever happened last night. Forcing him to shift back would just make him angrier." Nick told my dad.
"He is disobeying alpha orders. He needs to be punished. There are rules we all must follow. I am the Alpha and I enforce the rules in this pack. Go upstairs and help Elena clean up the broken glass." Dad told Nick.
"But…" Nick started to say but dad cut him off.
"Do not go against my orders Nicolas. Go upstairs and help Elena." Dad told Nick sternly.
Nick nodded and walked upstairs.
"Antonio, give Haydyn two doses of stabilizer. Clay get Haydyn to stay still." Dad told Antonio and Clay.
Clay opened the cage door and shut it behind him and Antonio. I was about to run into the cage again, but Clay grabbed me and Antonio stabbed a needle into my front right paw. Clay let go of me and they left the cage and locked it leaving me.
I snarled at them and suddenly felt a burning pain in my chest. Pounding began in my head and I let out a whine because it hurt like hell.
I felt myself shift back and when I looked up Clay tossed me a pair of jeans. I put them on and sat down on the small bed that was in the cage because I felt dizzy and my head was still pounding.
"You are to never disobey my orders again! Do you understand?!" Dad yelled at me and I felt shame wash over me.
"Yes sir." I told him in a quiet voice while wincing at how loud he was.
"We'll talk about your punishment later. Go upstairs and wash up." He told me and I nodded.
Clay unlocked the cage and left it open for me. I stood up from the bed and walked out of the cage and up the stairs to the first floor. I walked up another flight of stairs and went to my room. I took the pants off and got into the shower. When I was done I put on black jeans, black vans, and a blue rip curl shirt. I sat on my bed and ran my hand through my hair.
This is the worst week ever. First, Clay and dad flip out over Chloe bringing my notebook by the house. Second, I get beat up. Third, Chloe cheats on me, with a mutt that beat me up at school, at a party she invited me to. Four, Chloe comes by again lying about why I wouldn't talk to her making me furious. Fifth, I lose control and get put into the training cage. Six, I disobeyed my dad when he gave Alpha orders, breaking the number one rule of the pack. Seven, I have a forced shift and now I feel like crap.
"Haydyn, we need to talk." Clay said opening my door.
I looked at him when he came in and didn't even bother saying anything.
Later that day dad was heading out to get Chloe.
"You can't bite her. She didn't know it was me. How could she tell it was me if I was a wolf? Plus I don't think she's that clever. She won't survive the bite anyway." I told my dad as he went to walk out the front door.
"Are you defying my orders again?" Dad asked me sternly.
"No, I'm trying to do the right thing. If you bite Chloe she has a 1% of surviving. As much as I don't like her, I still have to do the right thing." I told him standing up for myself.
"I don't have a choice. As alpha I have to enforce the rules of the pack. Now stay here with Clay and Nick." Dad told me closing the door behind himself.
I was about to follow him when Clay pulled me back.
"Listen to Jeremy. If you defy him again, you can be ruled out of the pack." Clay told me and I still struggled in his grip.
"Stop struggling or I will put you in the cage." Clay told me and I stopped and he let go of my shirt.
"What if he kills her? Elena was the only girl to survive the change. Chloe's blood will be on our hands if she dies. How is that going to help me let go of her?" I asked Clay.
"I don't know." Clay told me and Nick then walked down stairs.
"This is so unfair. Life would be a hell lot easier if there were no werewolves. I'll be the human around here since everyone is losing humanity and their damn minds. I hope you enjoyed my wolf because it will never come back." I told Clay and rammed passed Nick.
"You can't ignore your wolf. Haydyn it's a part of you. You will never be able to change that." Clay hollered to me as I ran up the stairs.
Later that night I was called to dinner.
"Haydyn, come on it's time to eat." Antonio told me coming into my room.
"Can I skip tonight?" I asked him.
"Nope. Your father wants everyone downstairs because we need to introduce a possible candidate for our pack." He told me and walked out of my room.
I clenched my teeth and felt a low growl come from the back of my throat.
"HAYDYN! DON'T EVEN START!" My dad yelled at me.
I winced when he yelled and got up from my desk chair.
I put on black skinny jeans, grey shirt that said BVXC, and a pair of black vans. I then slowly walked downstairs and into the kitchen where I saw Chloe sitting next to Elena at the dining table.
"Glad you could join us. Now sit." Dad told me and I sat down next to Pete and Nick.
Everyone started eating and I just sat in my seat poking my food pissed off yet again.
"Haydyn, why didn't you tell me you were a werewolf? I thought we were close enough to tell each other anything?" Chloe asked me.
I clenched my jaw and glared at her, holding in my anger.
"It's against pack rules to reveal our secret to humans." Dad told her.
I put my fork on my plate and put my hands in my lap clenching them in fists.
"You need to chill before you do something you will regret." Nick told me in a really low voice that no one could hear without using their wolf hearing.
I picked up my fork again and moved my food around my plate.
"It's going to be nice having another girl in the pack." Elena told Chloe smiling.
"If she survives the transformation." Clay told Elena.
"She won't." I said speaking up.
"With your help she will. You still haven't had your punishment." Jeremy told me.
I looked at him shocked and felt myself fill with hurt. He wants me to take Chloe's pain away from her entire transformation so she would survive. This is so unfair.
"It's going to be so cool being a werewolf." Chloe said smiling.
"Can I please be excused?" I asked with little control in my voice.
Dad nodded and I got up from the table.
"Can I watch you transform?" Chloe asked me getting up from the table.
"First you cheat on me, get me in trouble for going to a party you begged me to attend, lie about it trying to cover your ass, then you invade my packs territory, want to be a werewolf the only way you would survive that is for me to take your pain away during the transformation, and now you want to watch me shift. Do you not see that I hate you! YOU'RE A FUCKING MANIPULATIVE BITCH!" I said and yelled at her losing control at the end of what I was trying to say.
I ran upstairs to my room slamming the door behind me.
I felt my body tingling and when I looked in the mirror I saw my eyes flicker info. I growled and felt tears run down my face. I felt my body trying to shift but it wouldn't. I felt myself go into a panic mode and just as it happened there was a knock at my door. My eyes went back to normal, but I felt my bones rubbing against each other.
"Haydyn, I know your upset, but that doesn't void your punishment." Dad told me through the door.
I calmed down a little, but my bones were still causing me pain.
"You better be downstairs in the den in 3 minutes. If you're not, I will take it that you aren't apart of the pack anymore." Dad finished and I heard him walk away.
I put on elastic shorts and wiped the tears I had forming in my eyes.
I opened my door and slowly walked downstairs and into the den. Chloe was in the cage and I saw dad in his wolf form. He looked at me and then to Chloe. Clay, Nick, Antonio, and Logan were down in the den with us.
"After your father bites her you will drink her blood and that will trigger your healing. You will endure all the pain that comes from her body. You will feel the need to shift and eventually you will." Antonio told me and Clay put me in the cage with Chloe.
Before I knew it dad bit Chloe on her hand and I felt panic rise within me again.
Clay forced me to drink Chloe's blood and in an instant I felt intense pain rise within me.
Dad and Clay left the cage and locked it with me and Chloe inside.
"How do you feel right now Chloe?" Antonio asked Chloe.
"I feel fine." Chloe said to Antonio.
I felt my ribs break and I whimpered falling to the ground. My body was fighting the shift, what was happening to me?
Tears started pouring down my face and I felt my body burning. I ripped my shirt off and when I did I felt my hip bones break. My rib pain was no match for the pain in my hips. I was in agony for hours and I reached a point where I eventually passed out. When I woke up I was covered in sweat and I felt so weak that I could barely open my eyes.
Another wave of pain came and I cried out screaming loud.
My body started breaking again and this time I felt my wolf ripping to come out. I couldn't hear anything and my vision began to black out.
I felt something get injected into me and I felt my vision and hearing come back. I didn't have time to breathe before I began to shift fully into my wolf. When I was done shifting the pain went away physically, but my emotional pain was beyond anything I've ever felt.
I got off the floor on four paws standing up. I felt Chloe nudge me and I whipped around and bared my fangs at her. She backed up as far as she could go and I snapped at her.
"Haydyn." I heard my dad say in a whisper.
I turned to him and then to the lock on the cage.
"Not as a wolf." He told me understanding that I wanted out.
I shifted back and stood up on my two legs. I put on my shorts and dad opened the cage for me.
They tried talking to me, but I was hurt way too much.
I walked up the stairs and up another flight that led to my room.
Closing the door behind me gently I then got into my bed and cried myself into a deep sleep.
When I woke up I felt a shred of pain and then I felt my body start to shift.
I was about to go out my window, but I remembered that dad had boarded it up. I ran out of my room and in the middle of going downstairs I wolfed out completely. I lost my balance and then fell down the stairs and before I hit the bottom I felt someone catch me and when they put me safe to the ground I saw it was Clay.
I nodded to him and then to the door and he unlocked it and let me out.
I felt my body shift back to my human form and I ran to the side of the house where I keep spare shorts and I put a pair on. I then ran inside.
Nick caught my arm as I ran inside and swung me in his direction.
"Haydyn, you wanna run some errands with me?" Nick asked me walking into the house.
"Depends." I told him.
"It's nothing big I want to show you an investment I'm making and it'll be the two of us so no girls or Clay." He told me.
"Give me ten minutes to get ready." I told him going up to my room.
I took a quick shower and changed into white skinny jeans, black Adidas high tops, and a gray Lacrosse shirt that had my number on it.
I did my hair and grabbed my phone on my way out of my room. I met Nick in the car and he started to drive.
We arrived at a blacked out building and when we went inside there was music and people dancing everywhere.
"You opened a club." I told him raising my voice over the music.
"Yeah, you like it?" He asked me smiling.
"I don't think it's legal for me to be here." I told him grinning.
"You need a break from all the crazy shit that's been happening." Nick told me he guided me to a tabled area that had less people where we could actually talk.
A waiter brought Nick and me water and we started to talk.
"I am surprised you wanted to come out of Stone Haven." Nick told me.
"What do you mean?" I asked him confused.
"You know, about the whole being binned by blood with Chloe." He told me taking a drink of his water.
"What are you talking about?" I asked him taking a break from my drink.
"The binning by blood in your case is permanent as long as Chloe is living and breathing, you will feel every pain and change she ever has." Nick told me.
"What? Nick are you being serious?" I asked him shocked out of my mind.
"I wouldn't tell you something if it wasn't 100%." He told me.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I felt pain sharply hit me, trying to push back my wolf, but felt the power of my wolf push forward.
I snapped my eyes open, knowing they were flashing yellow, and clenched my jaw.
"Come on!" Nick demanded to me and jumped out of his chair and helping me get up.
Every moment of pain began to get more and more intense to the point where I felt the beginning of my bones breaking, starting with my ribs.
We got out of the club and Nick put me in his car.
"Hold on. Haydyn I need you to focus. Listen to my heart beat." Nick told me and started the car.
"I…Can't…" I told him between gasps of pain.
We arrived at Stone Haven and Nick grabbed me bringing me into the house and down to the den. He locked me in the cage.
After loads of pain, I eventually shifted into my wolf and when the pain was over I looked up at Nick.
"I'm sorry this is happening buddy." He told me and I laid down on the cold hard floor worn out completely.
When I could finally shift back into my human form, I had Nick unlock the cage to let me out. Without saying anything to Nick, I walked straight upstairs after he handed me a pair of jeans and I put them on. As I was about to go up to my room and was on the main floor, I heard Elena and Chloe laughing in the backyard. Hearing their voices made my blood boil and I turned around and went to the backyard.
"Hey Haydyn." Chloe said to me with a smile.
"What game are you playing at?" I asked her pissed off.
"I'm not playing any games. What's your problem? I'm sensing some tension." Chloe said putting her hands on her hips.
"YOU'RE MY PROBLEM! I HATE YOU SO MUCH! YOU ARE MAKING MY LIFE A LIVING HELL!" I said yelling at her.
"Haydyn stop. She can barely control her shift and if you yell at her, you only make it worse for her." Elena told me stepping in.
"Worse for her! She's acting like this is fucking Christmas!" I yelled screaming at Elena.
And before someone could say anything more Chloe started to shift.
I felt myself shift and once I was a wolf I took off running into the other direction.
When it began to get dark I ran home and once I shifted I grabbed a pair of jeans and a tee shirt I had hidden in the bushes. I slid on my vans and walked inside the house.
