The following scene is not even a real story. It is just something that popped into my head while I was driving to work today. I like missing scenes so if you're going to be gentle with me, there may be more. Reviews are very welcome.

The New Chauffeur

"What a very boring day," Mary complained. "I can hardly remember what we did all day, but I know I found it incredibly tiresome. I think I'm going to write to Aunt Rosamund and see if I can visit ahead of the season. I'm longing for London."

The three Crawley sisters were dressing for dinner. As with every evening Mary, being the oldest, was the last to sit in front of the mirror waiting for Anna to do her hair. Meanwhile her sisters, having completed their toilettes already, were lounging in her room waiting until she, too, was ready to go downstairs.

"Aren't there any dinner guests coming tonight?" Edith asked playing with her necklace.

"No, none besides Cousin Matthew and Isobel and of course Granny. And I could do very well for one day without Mama pushing me in Matthew's direction," Mary sighed and looked up at Anna in the mirror. "So how has your day been, Anna? I'd bet it was far more busy than ours."

Anna smiled a little. "Actually, there was an uproar today downstairs. The younger housemaids were giggling and whispering all day because the new chauffeur arrived. I guess he's set their hearts aflutter."

"Well, he is handsome", Sybil announced to the surprise of her sisters, looking up from something she was reading.

"Is he indeed?" Mary shrugged her shoulders. "I couldn't say what he looked like to be honest."

"You must be blind then," Sybil stated. "I couldn't help noticing him. He's really good looking."

"Hear, hear," Mary teased. "He obviously made quite an impression on you!"

Sybil blushed a little, but raised her chin. "I think it's rather obious."

Edith laughed. "Mary doesn't notice good looks. She only appreciates money and position."

"Oh come on, Edith. Be honest. Did you take a look at the chauffeur then when he drove us into Ripon, today?" Mary asked.

"I did", Edith said firmly. "And he's certainly better looking than poor old Taylor."

"See?" Sybil said triumphantly to Mary. "He has lovely eyes and a nice smile".

"And when please, did you see his smile?" Mary raised a brow.

Sybil shrugged her shoulders. "I saw his face in the mirror while we were driving and he smiled about something Mama said."

"Oh, so he's not only good looking but also impudent. Beware of the chauffeur. He'll probably cause trouble among the housemaids." Mary smiled.

"Oh no M'lady, that's a bit unfair, I think," Anna commented. "Mr Branson is actually very friendly and has good manners. He didn't pay any attention to the girls at all. I think he'll fit in well downstairs."

"Well, one thing is for sure. You made me curious. I must take a look now when both my sisters tell me he's handsome." Mary stood up and all three ladies walked out of the room and down the stairs.

"Do that," Sybil smiled. "And let us know what you think."
