"Hmm," Wash said to himself. "One across. A state of calmness. Eight letters." He thought a moment. "S-E-R-E-N-I-T-Y."
Wash stared long and hard at the next clue. "Six down. Hey, Simon! Do you know a five-letter word for 'an insufferable jerk'?"
Simon looked up from his book. "Have you tried 'Jayne'?"
"Hey, it fits!"
"Don't mention it." Simon went back to reading his Robin Cook novel. "Do you think Jayne's going to cause grievous physical harm when he sees what you've written?"
"Since when can Jayne read?"
