Chasing Shadows Chapter one
New Biginnings
The wind blew hard making the raven-haired girl even colder. She didn't care. Every one was dead. Her family, friends and everyone she cared about. They had protected her and died. A lone tear traveled down her check yet it went unnoticed. Her life had crumbled in one single night. She looked up at the fire that was burning away her past. There was only room for one to survive, and they picked her.
Flashback
A loud crash could be heard through out the Kamiya dojo. A young girl shot up from bed looking around her room to make sure no one was there. "Okaasan? Otousan?" Whispered the girl and she stood from her bed. She slowly opened her door and peered around the corner. It was quiet very quiet. She grabbed her bokken and slowly crept through the dark hallways. Her body was shaking from the fear that was now building up inside of her. She grabbed the doorknob and slowly turned, dreading of what was inside. As the door swung open she saw what no 7 year old should see. Her azure eyes enlarged at the sight. There was her father on the ground with a puddle of blood surrounding him. His now lifeless eyes were wide open filled the pain he received before he died. The raven-haired girl stood there paralyzed at the sight of her now dead father. She struggled as she lifted her eyes away from her father's body. "Kaoru!" The girl turned at the sound of her name. Kaoru's eyes grew bigger at the sight of her mother. Her once beautiful face was dirty, her close torn in many places. "Okaasan!" cried Kaoru as she ran to her mother. "Kaoru-chan, run away. Start a new life.Onegaishimasu!" Blood slowly trickled down her face. "Okaasan!" Kaoru gasped as she remembered her younger brother.
"Okaasan, Yahiko-chan! Where's Yahiko-chan!"
"He stayed with your uncle tonight. Get him Kaoru-chan and leave. There is an escape door in the closet, take it and leave! Kaoru-chan, live. Don't look back and live the rest of your life." With one last smile she became still.
"Okaasan! Wake up Okaasan! Please!" Kaoru's little hand shock the lifeless body hoping her mother would open her eyes. The young girls face was now covered with tears that wear running freely along her cheeks. She slowly got on her feet and headed toward the dresser. Kaoru opened the first drawer and took out a matchbox. She turned around to have one final look at where she grew up. Kaoru walked to the closet and turned to face the room. "Arigato Okaasan, Otousan. I promise to take care of Yahiko-chan. Sayonara." With that Kaoru lit the match and flicked it at the bed knowing it would catch on fire soon. "I swear on your graves that I will avenge you." Kaoru opened the escape with her tiny hands. She slowly lowered herself into the tunnel. Her azure eyes no longer sparkled with innocence.
