Remus was scared. No, that wasn't right. He was terrified. What had he done? Looking down at his sleeping wife, he suppressed the urge to cry. How could he? Dora deserved better. Better than an aging werewolf, who had made her an outcast. It didn't matter that they were in love. Even her parents disapproved. Why did she love him? Why not someone younger, fitter, better suited to her needs? And now she was pregnant. Dora was, of course, delighted. He didn't have the heart to tell her that he couldn't have a child with her. It could become like him, and no one deserved that. No one.

Suddenly he jumped out of bed. Quietly, he put on a cloak and started to slowly walk out of the door. Out of Dora's life.

'Remus? What are you doing?'

Reluctantly, he turned.

'Where are you going?'

'Nowhere, you go back to sleep.'

'You're not leaving, are you? Not leaving us?'

'Don't be ridiculous. Now go back to sleep. I just need to check something with Arthur.'

'If you're sure…'

He got as far are the kitchen before the tears started to fall. He couldn't leave them. Dora depended on him. The baby depended on him. Teddy Lupin, his son.

What if the Death Eaters found Dora, and he wasn't there? They would surely kill her and Teddy. She couldn't defend herself, she was heavily pregnant. She couldn't even run. If he left them, they were as good as dead.

Collapsing onto a kitchen chair, he cried quietly. Nearly everyone he cared about was dead. James, Lily, Sirius, Albus, his parents. Not to mention the many others that had died.

He had not choice. Rising from the chair, he wiped away the tears. Slipping off his cloak, he climbed back into bed.

'That was quick. What did you need to see Arthur for?'

'It doesn't matter. It can wake until morning.'

With that, she fell asleep. Remus sighed. He couldn't leave her, he loved her too much. Stroking her hair, he told himself this is what is important in life. His family.
