Five Things That Never Happened

A woman woke in the night to a faint rustling sound. She got up groggily, uncertain, to find in a man in the next room with her baby, a needle poised to inject. With a strangled, "How dare you!" She grabbed the baby from his arms and ran off into the night. The man was too startled to chase and only watched as she disappeared. The night was pitch black and stormy, and on her way over a bridge, the woman slipped. The baby disappeared into the darkness, and the woman wailed her grief-to save her baby from an uncertain fate, only to lose it!

Later, a man fishing found a little bundle of joy, and having no children of his own, took it home to his wife.

As he lost sight of his brother, a boy sobbed. He'd never ever see Mommy or Daddy again... The boy was lost in his misery, too lost to notice that by sheer luck he'd missed all the wreckage. It was a long drift down, and when he finally reached the ground, not really looking, he banged his head on a piece of wreckage, effectively knocking him out.

In a hospital the same day, the doctor looked up from examining his now-conscious patient. "He'll live, and the bump did no permanent damage. Just hard enough to knock him out. Any harder, though, and he'd have serious head trauma." Two female orphanage owners sighed in relief.

A teenager stared out at the cityscape on a balcony. Inside the house, a party was raging, but this girl stood alone. Another boy looked longingly at her while his friend egged him on. Finally his friend's reassurances and his own courage worked together and he walked over. "Wanna dance?" he asked.

The girl turned around, looking startled, and said, "Oh..sure." She didn't sound overly excited, but not real bummed either. The other teen was glad.

As he was about to put his hand on her bare shoulder, the girl said, "Ah should wahn ya though. Ah've got a rare skin condition. Better not to touch anything bare." She smiled, and the boy smiled back, readjusting his hand's course.

As a man in a strange costume with a metal helmet over his head approached a younger girl, a boy, looking the same age as the girl, although his hair was a strange white, stood accusingly in front of her. The girl was sleeping peacefully until the boy said, "Daddy, where're you takin Wanda? I wanna come too!" The strange man looked at the boy with an inexplicable look. "No, Pietro, you can't come. Wanda has to go away." Pietro shook his head defiantly. "You can't take her away! I won't let you!" With all the clamor and father verses son, the girl woke up, and sensing the tension, she escaped.

It would be a while before either realized, but once it had been realized, it was too late. The man cursed his luck, but the boy silently cheered. His sister had gotten away.

A boy, panting from the wicked moves he'd been performing on his skateboard, flipped the skateboard to his hand and walked off the rink. Another competitor offered him a sports drink, POWR8, and the teen accepted the proffered drink. Staring at the drink, though, he reconsidered. "Nah, I'll just have water. Power drinks won't help me win anything." The other boy shrugged and drunk himself. "Your loss, man."
