To Keep Jane Safe
By Kebire
Summary: Aro knows he shouldn't be
so attached to the child. She's a guard, a weapon, not a pet or,
god forbid, a daughter.
Disclaimer: Aro, Jane, Felix and the
Volturi are the property of Stephenie Meyer.
A/N: I'm pretty
apathetic about this fic. It's not as good as it could be, but...
meh. Aro's kind of out of character... maybe? We don't really
have much on the Volturi to go on.

Jane is hardly defenceless. Though she isn't as strong as Felix or as fast as Heidi and she's even smaller than most girls her physical age, one quick smile and she can have even the most muscle-bound of newborns writhing on the ground in agony. She knows how to fight well enough (he made sure of that himself) and she never goes out on a mission without at least five guards to act as her bodyguards, just in case.
But still... he's not sure about sending her to Washington.
Aro knows he shouldn't be so attached to the child. She's a guard, a weapon, not a pet or, god forbid, a daughter. But that doesn't stop him from worrying that if he sends her down to deal with the Seattle coven, the Cullens will rebel to protect their precious little human toy and she'll get hurt, or worse. He's not worried about the newborns, really. Jane's dealt with them time and time again. But the Cullens...
Oh, he's well enough aware that she'll want to go. Aro has felt her fury at the little Bella human, and he knows that she wants the girl assassinated as punishment for being immune to her power, which is why he gave her the mission in the first place. Before all this... worry began to plague him.
"You ready yet?" At the sound of Felix's distant voice, distorted by the glass on his window, Aro looks up. He sees Jane approaching the other vampire as they prepare to board the plane that will take them to Washington. For a moment he contemplates calling out, telling them that there's been a mistake and Jane isn't meant to go on that mission, but he knows that they'll realise he's trying to protect her, which could cause problems if an enemy coven finds out. Instead, he sighs and strides outside to meet them and say that He's going to change his plan, just this once. They'll threaten the girl instead of just killing her. Not for the girl's sake, or to preserve his frayed friendship with Carlisle.
It's to keep Jane safe, but he's going to keep that part to himself.
