To Marjo. Happy advanced birthday ^_^
How You Ruined My Life—
Ruby believes that the perfect way to live a life is to plan it beforehand.
No, he does not speak of dreams, or those that fade in the murders of the evenings and the opening of daylight.
He speaks of goals. Of plans. Of obligations.
He speaks of details. His life will always be about details.
He detests re-routes and detours. He despises the unexpected and curses the misplacements.
Everything must always be perfect in every way, down the last tip of the thinnest part.
He was meticulous like that.
When he moved to Littleroot—against his will, for the information of the general patron—he never let these details waver. He may be in a foreign land, but that does not mean he needs to act foreign for it.
No, sir.
Everything will always be intact.
Just look at his Pokemon. Ever since he first vowed to conquer all ranks and categories of pokemon contests, he had never given up in keeping his "buddies" in tip-top condition, and of course, they must be beautiful.
He didn't care if he comes across very strong pokemon. If they do not fulfil his rather high standards of beauty and grace, he wouldn't give much damn.
Besides, with his rationale in mind, who needs strength anyway?
Unlike his father—his most detestable father—he wouldn't put his Pokemon's delicate images to trouble waters if it weren't that urgent (say, a matter of life and death, perhaps?). the rough battles would only dirty them up and may even scar them if not careful. And who would want permamnent damage in his ranks?
And speaking of personal damage, don't even let him start about his father Norman. That quirky old man who did nothing but drag himself out of the house for his so-called "ambition" will one day cause the death of him. And not only that. He just had drag his family along (which brings a bit of light in the Littleroot thing mentioned earlier). Imagine moving out of the comforst of your own hometown for the sake of that person who's been ruining his own body for a job that more or less keeps him away from his family.
Ruby would never do that. He'd never risk quality-time with his family for the sake of dreams.
Besides, he had no intention of marrying.
He had many plans about life, and none of them, unfortunately, included settling down and starting his own family. That is simply out of the question. If he were to die alone then so be it, as, long as he can enjoy that oh-so-magnificent life of a bachelor while he lives.
Upon knowing this, people tend to wonder: "why does he intend on going back to Johto then, if he has no one to come back to there?"
Well, that's the point. He plans ( note emphasis) to go back to Johto because he can set up his own fort and watch his well-detailed life flash before him in lavish lights.
But when this certain wild girl came into his life, and brought a lot of trouble with her, his plans began to fall apart. He began to step off the line and disobey his own rules.
Unconsciously, she had ruined his life.
And he was glad she did.
