Takes place at Dressrosa. What is Luffy thinking when he sees Doflamingo shoot Law.
He peered down at the Den Den Mushi Zoro was holding up, trying to get close enough to hear without touching sea stone the bars of the Colosseum. He approved of Franky working with dwarves and toys to take down the factory. Sanji, Nami, Chopper, and Momo were safe with Caesar on the ship. That left Torao. Where is he? Caesar was supposed to be with Traffy wasn't he? Luffy wondered. I'll figure everything out when the competition is over. He was just about to tell Zoro to hang up when suddenly something shot out of the sky, slamming into the ground a short distance from where they all were gathered, blasting ruble and dust everywhere.
From the dust of the collision and the screams of the citizens, came the sound of clicking of footsteps, slow, like that of a predator stalking prey it knows has no chance of flight. Then a voice emerged from the clearing dust:
"Stupid brat" it growled. I know this voice Luffy thought, where have I heard it before? That's right the Den Den Mushi on the Sunny, its Doflamingo.
He caught a glimpse of pink in the swirling dust, and felt his spine tingling. The last time he had seen that pink was on a battlefield of a different kind, he had no time then to spare for the pink man. Now, a feeling of animosity toward the pink birdman sank in. The dust cleared enough so he could see Doflamingo and his prey. He gasped in shock. It's Traffy! He looks horrible. There was blood everywhere, his eyes were closed, his body still. He lay among the broken rocks of the street, like a smashed doll, his body resting at odd angles.
Putting together the pieces of what was happening and the danger his friend was in, he heard himself shout,
"Doflamingo! Torao!" What are they doing together? He tried to remember what was supposed to be happening, Crap I didn't pay attention to the plan. This is obviously not what is supposed to be a part of it. Think Luffy. What were the others doing? Oh. They were supposed to arrange a trade with Mingo for Caesar. But Caesar was on the ship and-
"Hey, Torao! Why are you with Doflamingo…"
BANG!
Luffy felt his body freeze. He had not even seen the pistol being raised. Traffy had been shot!
Torao was hurt! Why wasn't he moving Was he dead? No I can still see him breathing.
"You've pushed it too far." The horrible voice growled again.
BANG! BANG!
Again and again the Flamingo pulled the trigger firing into the frighteningly still body of his friend, the only movement came from the impact of the bullets jarring Torao's body. The screaming of the people had faded to a ringing.
"Torao!" Luffy heard himself scream. How had things gotten so bad while he was competing?!
His rage was building inside of him, a churning storm, rage at Mingo for hurting his friend, rage at his own helplessness, it built on the rage for Rebecca and what she had lost.
He could feel all other problems fading, winning Ace's Fruit, destroying the factory, challenging Kaido. A new resolution won dominance over the others, fueled by his fury, it came with a sense of rightness. He had known subconsciously it would come to this. Ever since Torao had first confronted him about using the Flamingo to get to Kaido. I knew this was more then just challenging an Emperor, he had seen it in Traffy's eyes when he talked about the Flamingo.
"Hey Mingo!" Luffy roared practically shaking with fury, not caring that he was interrupting the townspeople's cheers for their king, or that he was breaking his cover.
"How dare you shoot Torao!" The twisted grin he got in return as the Flamingo turned to face him, only added his anger. The pink man still smiling stated,
"Mugiwara it's none of your business, Law was originally my subordinate. The responsibility of dealing with him falls to me." His voice becoming angrier as he spoke.
He is going to kill Traffy! Luffy realized. Zoro and Kinemon must have too because they sprang into action to rescue Torao.
I hate this man. How dare he hurt my friend. I will defeat him, and free Torao.
This is why I am here, he resolved. I came to Dressrosa because that damn flamingo hurt my friend, he hurt Rebecca, and he wants to hurt Momo.
I will defeat him, and free Law and everyone else.
I owe Torao that much. He saved me despite the risk to himself, despite not owing me a thing, and almost getting himself killed by the admirals to save my skin from Marineford two years ago. Traffy is my friend. Zoro and Kinemon sprung into action only to be intercepted by that blind man from the Café and the Marines. He watched, shaking, as Traffy was dragged like a sack of potatoes and towed off towards the palace.
"I'm coming! " He screamed as Kinemon made one final attempt to save Torao and was sent flying by the Flamingo.
It was like watching Ace at Marineford facing Akainu again, Luffy gripped the bars ready to rip them out and beat up Mingo for hurting his friends. Remembering too late what they were made of. DAMN IT!
There would be no going back he was going to destroy the Flamingo.x
