A Clare and Eli Story: A Night To Remember
The rain was coming in a down pour and the sky growled with frustration. It did bother me though. I waited in my room anyway, for the call from Eli. It seemed like the past had caught up to him today, turned him crazy, but sad and I wanted to help my boyfriend. Why did people have to die? Why did his old girlfriend Julia have to die? Did she deserve it? These questions puzzled me. I really liked the boy and I couldn't see him like this.
Then music erupted from my pocket and I answered the cell phone, "Hello? Eli?"
"Clare, I can't take it anymore, I need to see her… clear my mind."
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know Clare…"
"Eli, be careful."
"I'm going to see her soon…"
What did he mean by that? No, not that… not risk so much to see her. "Eli, don't… Please!"
"You don't want me too?" He sounded really emotional. "You just want me to forget about her and keep on living like nothing had ever happened?"
"No, I want to help you. I-"
"I just don't know any more Clare… She died just a year ago today." Then there was silence.
"Eli! Don't do anything stupid!"
No answer.
"Eli! Answer me!"
Nothing.
"Eli! Please!" I started to shed begging tears.
Then some deep breathing filled the speaker. "Do you love me, Clare?" Then came sniffles from the other ends.
"Yeah… I do, I love you Eli."
Silence…
"I love you too."
I was astonished and sat down on my bed.
"You should look out your window Clare."
I instantly got up and rushed to the window and there stood Eli outside, across the street. "I chose you Clare." He spoke and hung up.
I ran through my house to the front door, unlatched it, and quickly opened it letting in the sounds of the rain hitting the streets. Eli was standing by his hurse and was wet from head to toe by the rain. He looked at me with pleading eyes and I ran to him. I was caught in a bear hug. "Clare, I'm sorry."
"I am too, I know how much she meant to you." I dug my face into his shoulder
"Less then what you mean to me."
"What?" I was shocked and pulled away, looking at his face.
"When I said I loved you Clare, I meant it." His eyes moistened a little and he grinned his movie-star smile.
I thought, no, I knew it would happen after he'd done it the first time, his kiss. Our lips met as he tilted my head up and they seemed to fit like puzzle pieces. The sounds of the rain drowned out for a few seconds and it was like me and Eli was the only ones in the universe, nothing else. I opened my eyes to see his face and realized that I was getting rained on, I didn't care though.
Our eyes lingered in each other's and he went in for another kiss and it was amazing. His tongue against mine and I was happy. I got warm all over and I felt happiness. His hands crested and encircled my back softly and moved to my hair. His lips seemed to move like music. I realized that I did love Eli. The kiss ended and I said, "I love you."
"Hey, Clare, I love you too." His lips formed a smile.
"Let's go inside and get out of this rain." I smiled too.
