Based on "By Your Side" by Tenth Avenue North, now my favorite song ^_^
Minor Gwevin, BOTH A LITTLE OOC.
Kevin's POV:
I saw that Gwen wasn't herself. She was stressed, obviously, but she's been stressed before. Just sitting there on her bed pitifully, head in her hands and body being gently racked by her quiet sobs.
"Gwen," I said softly. I knelt in front of her and held her face in my hands, trying to see her eyes. "I'm here."
She turned away from me and pulled her legs up on the bed, silently shaking her head.
"Am I not enough for you now? Gwen, what's wrong? I want to help you. I love you."
"I need to get away," she said between her staccato breaths, barely loud enough for me to hear.
"Where will you go?"
"Run away."
"Where will you run?" I asked, one of my hands gently resting on her back. "Where would you run away to?"
Gwen slid off the bed and knelt in front of her window. "Out there."
"Just outside?"
"Far away. I need to run away from everything."
"Even me?"
She turned around to look at me, her green eyes still glistening with tears though she wasn't crying anymore. No answer escaped from her lips. "I…"
"I'll always be here, you know." I rubbed my fingertips on the smooth sheets. The rhythmic movement calmed me down a little from the shock that she would even think of running away from me. "Whenever you need me."
"I… I know." She looked back into the night and took a breath. A flash of lightning shot across the sky, casting an eerie silhouette around her that disappeared as rain started pelting at her window.
"You don't have to run away." I got up and sat next to her on the floor with my arm around her waist. "You'll always have me to turn to. I'll always be here."
Gwen looked up at me, her face blank and expressionless. She didn't say anything.
I looked back outside to the storm. Neither of us said anything. We just… watched.
"Gwen?" I asked and looked down to where she was, but she was gone.
Shit.
I jumped up and looked outside, searching the street for any sign of her.
The front door slammed shut, and Gwen ran outside into the storm and down her street, away from everything. Away from her life.
Away from me.
"Gwen!" I threw open the window and jumped out. I hit the ground hard, not prepared for the landing at all. "Gwen!"
The girl just kept running, her fiery red hair flying out behind her, her heels splashing in muddy puddles. She looked so free; I didn't want to catch her. She had finally broken out of her cage and was going where she needed to be. But already my arms ached for her to come back.
I ran after her, not wanting her to run away from me. She was mine, not Fate's.
"Gwen!"
She splashed in another puddle, which was really a pothole filled with water. She tripped on the edge and fell hard to the hard asphalt, and stayed there, perched on her forearms, one ankle and foot still stuck in the pothole.
I ran to my girlfriend and knelt next to her, picking her up in my arms. "Gwen."
She sat up and flung her arms around my neck. "Kevin."
"I'm here. I'll never let you go."
