Warmth spread through the cool July air, cooked only by the shroud o night that his the sun away. Two light green lawn chairs sat on the rooftop of a very large apartment building, which also allowed two newly-aged adults to sit down at. Dave, the owner of the two mentioned lawn chairs, had set up a small air conditioning unit that was set between him and Jade. It wasn't really needed, but sometimes the Houston air seemed to get a bit hotter at night, instead of the other way around.
As soon as he finished setting it up, he glanced up at Jade. Jade, whose face lit up with an aurora of colors, ll ranging from blues to yellows and reds and then to greens, was staring up at the big, cloudless sky, watching the fireworks explode. "Is this your first time seeing fireworks?" Dave suddenly asked, breaking the silence that sat between them comfortably.
Once she heard the sound of his voice, Jade glanced over, her wide, childish smile now dimming down to a more small and comfortable one. "Not in person," she answered before looking back up at the sky just as a loud pop rang through the air, indicating that yet another firework had gone off.
Dave nodded, now looking away from the girl who sat beside him and at the sky itself. It was nice, sitting on top of his roof with Jade, away from all of the Sburb mess. It was the most comfortable that he'd felt in a while, and he was glad that he wasn't watching the fireworks alone. Normally he'd watch them with Bro, but he hid those feelings back, not wanting them to reach the surface. Some things took a while to push down, and he didn't want her to see him in such a vulnerable state.
Before Jade could sense the mood, he turned back to her. "Yo, Jade?" He asked, wanting to get her attention, though it was a bit hard due to the fact that she seemed entranced by the colorful fireworks that went off above their heads.
Sighing, he leaned over and poked her side, making her jump and let out a yelp. "What was that for?" Jade questioned, wrapping her arms around him in sort of a self-hug, making Dave chuckle inwardly. But before he could even begin to ask his question, he noticed that she seemed to be staring at him.
"What?" Dave asked, his eyebrows furrowing together in slight annoyance and wonder. Did he look funny to her? Was there something on his face? "Jade, seriously; you're freaking me out with all of that staring." She blinked, seemingly not hearing his words. "Jade. Juh-ade. Jer-rade. Mother fuck- JADE!"
"Huh?" Jade finally let out with a faint yelp in her voice, probably a bit startled. Sighing, Dave turned his body a bit more to look at her. "Why were you staring at me?"
"I was staring at you?" She asked, seemingly surprised at the idea. Okay, maybe she had fallen asleep with her eyes open? Some new narcolepsy thing? That was a new one. "Yeah," he let out slowly, his mind still halfway on the whole narcolepsy thing. "Oh!" She suddenly let out, this time making Dave jump a bit. "I wasn't staring at you! I could see the fireworks in your shades!"
