This is just something short and sweet I wanted to do, expressing EXACTLY how I feel about what happens to Ken in Kaliedo Star.
Ken was walking up the stairs when he noticed Sora standing there. She was watching the sun set over the ocean, the orange and pink sky reflecting beautifully across the surface. It fascinated her—he could tell by the shimmer to her eyes and the way she unconsciously pulled her hair back, away from her face, and behind her ear.
I'm going to do it, he suddenly decided. I'll just walk up to her, tell her, and that'll be that. We've known each other for a long time now. I mean, I keep hesitating. Why do I keep hesitating? We're such good friends. This should be easy, right?
Holding onto the railing, he began to walk closer. She was so focused, she didn't see him. Ken paused and looked around. Nobody was coming up the stairs or out of their rooms. It was just him and Sora.
FINALLY!
"Hey, Sora!" he called.
Sora's head turned in surprise, and then she smiled as she watched him approach. "Ken, what are you doing up here?" she asked.
"Oh, you know," he thought quickly, and said, dumbly, "Sunset."
Sora laughed. "It's so pretty!"
Solid one, Ken, a voice snickered in the back of his head.
"So are you meeting anyone tonight?" he asked.
Sora's eyebrow rose. "Uh…no. I'm not."
Red rushed over Ken's face. "Then…would you like to go out for a-"
"SORA!" May jumped out of nowhere, tackling Sora. Her arms hooked around Sora's waist, pulling them both over the railing and down. "I WILL NEVER LOSE TO YOU!"
Both of them hit a trampoline—conveniently placed, probably the work of May—and were sent flying into the air. Sora was trying to pull May's arms off her. May was getting closer and closer to Sora's neck.
"May, let go! This is dangerous!" Sora complained.
"No! I refuse to lose!" May shouted.
"I have no idea what this has to do with winning or losing!" Sora cried.
Ken fell to his knees against the railing. Once again, he'd been interrupted. He'd come so close! Why? Why was it always him? Fate hated him so much. Every single time! Every time he tried to talk to Sora, just for a few moments, this always happened.
"Why?"
He began to cry.
Sorry, Ken. You poor, poor guy. Maybe you'll have better luck next time? Though...I SERIOUSLY doubt it...
Sincerely Smiling,
Jam Jones
