Matthew walked across the sullen floor. The marble was a harsh, cold, and unforgiving surface that seemed to be trying to torture him with the red liquid that tainted it. He knew whose blood it was. He knew it was his fault. He hadn't reacted quickly enough. He hadn't been able to protect him. It was his job to help the man and he had failed. What would the others think?

"Matt! You practically killed him! Why didn't you help him?" Alfred yelled. Matthew backed away, panicking.

"It wasn't my fault! I swear! I did everything I could! I gave it my best!" he cried. Warm tears made their way down his face.

"Your best wasn't good enough then. If your best had been good enough then he wouldn't have died" Alfred replied signaling the figure lying on the floor. His eyes showed a hint of bloodlust. Matthew shook his head.

"It wasn't my fault!" he yelled. Lies. All lies. It was all my fault. I know it is. Why can't I just tell him? He knows already. He already knows. He's my brother and he knows what I've done. He knows about my guilt.

"I'm sorry Matt. You need to suffer for what you've done. You need to feel the pain that he did when you didn't protect him." Alfred said approaching him. Matthew saw a glint of red in his brother's eyes.

"A-Al?" Matthew whispered. Alfred continued approaching him. When at last Alfred arrived he brought his mouth close to the other's ear.

"I'm sorry" he whispered before pulling a knife from his pocket and ramming it through his brother's heart. Matthew flinched but otherwise stayed still until the knife was pulled out. Alfred kept his left hand near the wound as to feel the warm liquid running over his hands.

"I'm so sorry" Alfred whispered pulling away. When he was standing straight up his golden blond hair faded away until it was a jet-black color. His fair skin changed to an odd old papery color and his eyes became squinted. He sighed before slowly fading from the room and soon there was no trace he was even there except for the body that lay bleeding on the ground.

"Matt? Matt where are you? How are you and— Matt!" Alfred screamed.
