For Maddie (fading daylight)'s birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
So, I normally hate Ronmione, but I felt that the sacrifice was good enough for Maddie.
I don't own anything.
He takes her hand as they walk along the beach front, the sun setting behind them as they walk further and further up and away from the main strip in the holiday town. He's lost count of how many years they've been together as Ron and Hermione, how many things they've lived through as a couple – and he can assure himself with the fact that the Second Wizarding War was not the scariest thing he has done.
Her hair is loose over her shoulders, curled naturally as it has done since she turned sixteen, eradicating the frizz that used to be there. She's dressed in typical holiday wear for a tourist resort in Spain in summer, a white summer dress that billows around her legs as she walks, the sea breeze making the weather just perfect.
Not far ahead is the spot he's been searching for, the epitome of absolute perfection that is the only place he can do this.
"Let's stop and look at the view for a second," he suggests casually, turning to show her the sunset. Streaks of pink intermingle with red and create the most abstract picture of all, the crescent moon shape of the sun lingering over the horizon far out at sea. The only sound is that of the water lapping at the beach, washing away the remnants of footprints of people long gone back to town to party.
Taking a deep breath, he turns her to face him and lowers himself down to the ground on one knee, digging the ring out of his pocket with a bit of difficulty because, as usual, Hermione packed his old shorts and they're a bit tight.
"Hermione Jean Granger," he begins, looking up into her face as he waits for a reaction. The only thing on her face is shock, the evident absolute lack of knowledge he had plans to do this overwhelming anything else she may be feeling. "I have loved you since, well, I can't actually remember when, but it's been a long time. We've been together through some of the most amazing times and some of the worst, yet we've made it, which is more than we can say for some people. I'm making an absolute Hippogriff's ear out of this, but what I'm trying to say is that I love you more than anything in the world and I want to ask you to marry me," he finishes, his voice cracking on the last word as he waits for her response.
She's more than gobsmacked, having never expected this – she's too young to get married! She has had plans to wait till she was 30, till her career was sorted, but evidently that's entirely out of the water by all means anyway.
And why wait if she's already got everything she wants?
She smiles as he finally asks her the question she wants to hear, finally asks her to marry him as he opens his palm to reveal the most perfect engagement ring ever. It's small, sleek and simple – everything she wants – with a diamond on the front that twinkles akin to the stars beginning to appear in the sky overhead.
Making him wait a moment, she pretends to consider when, in fact, her mind was made up before today. It was made up when she kissed him in Hogwarts, when she showed him that she loved him.
"Of course, you idiot," she grins as he moves to his feet near instantly after hearing her words of agreement. "What did you think I was going to say?"
"You mean you were playing with me?" he asks, agog as he slides the ring onto her ring finger without hesitation.
"Uhuh," she laughs as he grabs her by the waist, pulling her into him.
"You're a tease, Miss Granger," he whispers in her ear, a smile playing on his lips. "But, you know what? You're my tease."
And, with that, he kisses her, the world almost setting on fire in their minds as the passion almost explodes from them.
