Bellatrix breathed in the fresh summer air. Free, I am free! Or at least until Nanny wakes up from her nap. She looked around, then hurried to the boundaries of the estate, a thick hedge of mulberry bushes.
She discovered a girl about her age, squatting in the dirt with a brown-green toad. Pointing her slender finger, the toad began to sing "Jingle Bells". Bellatrix marched up to the odd pair and, hands on hips, demanded, "Who are you?"
"I am Alice," the girl said, then pointed to the toad who issued a croak in welcome, "And this is Trevor."
