This is basically what could have happened in Flesh And Stone after Amy kisses the Doctor, if things had gone in a different direction. Enjoy!

He can't think. He can't breathe. He can't do anything. He can't he can't he can't he can't…

"Doctor!"

"It's all you, Amy Pond. It's all about you, everything is all about you!"

She rolls her eyes.

"I don't know why, I have no idea, but quite possibly the single most important thing in the history of the universe is that I get you sorted out right now!"

"Argh! That's what I've been trying to tell you!" she says, rolling her eyes again. He grabs her hand and pulls her to the TARDIS, intending to throw her inside and get as far away from here as he possibly can. But instead…

He kisses her.

She responds very enthusiastically, almost immediately, and he can see where she's headed as she pulls him over to the bed. He can't bear to do it, but he pulls away from her for one short second.

"Amy, you know - I – we can't-"

"Oh, yeah, yeah, whatever!" she interrupts. "Just kiss me again, you idiot!"

And he does.

He feels her open her mouth slowly, and although he tries so hard not to, he does the same. Their breath mingles, and she runs her tongue along his lip. He moans automatically, then pulls away yet again.

"Amy, really, no!"

She sits down, and her hazel eyes gaze into his.

"Why not?"

"Hmm, let's think, shall we?"

He's angry again, and he doesn't know why.

"You're getting married in the morning-"

"So?"

"And you don't even know me that well-"

"I don't have to!"

"AND WILL YOU SHUT UP AND LET ME FINISH!"

She does, angrily.

"You don't love me and I don't love you"-he sees her eyes drop, and feels awful-"At least, not in that way. And- and you're a human!"

She smiles at him.

"I know."

He can tell she's sorry, she's had a hard, hard time, and she needs comfort. But he can't comfort her like that, not at the moment. Maybe if she were Rose… But she's not. And he knows that she doesn't really want him, not like that, she wants to be loved, and he can't give her that. Look what happened last time he gave his love to a human.

"Doctor," she says, "I know what you mean. But is comforting me that hard? After the day I've had? And it would only be comfort, I promise."

He knows she means it, too.

"Amy, I-"

And suddenly he doesn't want to say no. Suddenly he needs comforting too.

With that, he draws her mouth back to his.

And comforts her.
