A/N:

This one shot has been written as part of a challenge set by the lovely people over at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry (Challenges & Assignments). The task was to take the idea of labels or symbols and apply them to a character.

Hopscotch Prompt: George Weasley

Gringotts Prompt Bank: English proverb 5 – Ignorance is bliss; English Proverb 31 – Keep your chin up

Chocolate Frog: Bonus – Roxanne Weasley – (Challenge) To write about Roxanne Weasley

What's a brownnoser?

George Weasley hugged his daughter Roxanne tight against his chest as she sobbed quietly into his jumper, wetting it with her tears.

She had come home earlier that day from her muggle primary school wearing a fresh set of clothes and her dirty, stained and ripped one buried in her school bag.

"They-they-they," she hiccoughed. "They called me a brownnoser; what does that mean daddy?"

His seven year old daughter clung to him, her fists tightening even more if that was even possible around his jumper. George felt like a fish out of water when it came to this; his wife Angelina was usually the one Roxanne went to with her problems, but as she was out of town for week on business he was left looking after the children.

He rubbed her back lightly as he tried to find the right words to say.

"Honeybun," he said using his nickname for his only daughter, "That just means the other children are jealous of your intelligence. Don't pay any attention to what they. You are a bright, beautiful and boisterous girl. Keep your chin up, and don't let if effect you."

"But what does it mean daddy?" she asked, lifting her head from his chest and looking at him. She gave him 'the look' which had picked up from Angelina, which pretty much said "tell me now and stop beating around the bush."

How could he tell his sweet angel that when someone calls her a brownnoser they were effectively saying that she was a suck up? Answer was he couldn't. He couldn't upset his only daughter; and as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

Suddenly Fred came bounding into the room and said, "It means you're a suck up Rox, and you have your head stuck up someone's bum."

"Ewwwwwww, Freddy shut up," Roxanne cried giving her older brother a stern glare, another thing that she had picked up from her mother. "Daddy that's not true right?"

Roxanne looked up at him hopefully, and George found himself shaking his head and confirming that his son had told the truth, which set his daughter off in a fresh round of tears.
