Eternal Love
Edward knew there was no such thing as eternal love.
He learnt from experience that good things never lasted long enough for him to enjoy thoroughly. His mother, Nina, and so many other things he had once loved, were all ripped away from his life just when he was thinking of how fortunate he was to be able to have such things around him. He had seen too much to still believe that good things would last forever, the way a innocent child does. He was not an innocent child anymore, he knew the truth, and the truth was cruel. But the truth was the truth, and regardless of how he tried to avoid it, it still existed, and he would have to learn to accept it, which he did gradually, although reluctant.
He needed Roy, and Roy needed him. They fulfilled each other's desires.
Of course, their relationship was more than just lust. They loved each other. They loved each other deeply, and they cared for each other.
"I love you forever."
Such a statement was never heard between them. Both of them refused to make such ridiculous promises. Empty promises which were never true.
Men could always only see what was right in front of them, but never far down the road. The future is unknown, and will remain that way forever, there was no way men could ever see into the future. What will become of their love in the days ahead they did not know. All they knew was that they love each other at this moment, presently, right now. Perhaps their love would be gone in the next moment.
No one knows.
Love could not last forever, no matter how much you want it to.
He did not want his heart to be broken if the time should come when his love was torn away from him.
So he constantly reminded himself that love could not be eternal.
