HI,

This has not been betaed. This is based on my experience as a driver on a major metropolitan university campus that allows cars. I usually refer to this as the USF game but I changed the name for this story. Realistically, driving on campus can be nerve racking and dangerous.

The Campus Game

Blair hated to do it but he had to.

Jim had been banded from driving on campus for six weeks of the year. The week before classes started and two weeks after. Jim just didn't know how the play the campus game. Jim just didn't get it.

Blair could always identify new students. They spent all their time walking around campus with their nose in a map. They were so busy reading the map that they didn't realize just how often they almost became hood ornaments. They walk with in inches of cars, buses, and bikes as it they didn't exist. It didn't matter that the side walk had ended and the 4 lane highway had begin.

Jim knew that hitting students was bad. He also knew that he had to be careful. He just didn't drive with in the limits of this new game.

Jim actually expected people to walk on sidewalks, cross with the lights and to stay out the way of fast moving cars. Jim's speeding was just too dangerous. The Campus police had banded him.

Blair felt like the messanger of bad news. He just hoped that Jim didn't kill the massager. Jim had be clocked going 30 several times on campus. The speedlimit on campus was only 15mph. He was known as the speed demon cop. Blair had a real problem with that, Sweetheart had a bad habit of stalling below 25.

Jim would really mind.

Blair thought of just how to explain it. This could be phrased so that it sounded like his guide was worried about his blood pressure from all the campus crazies...students walking everywhere.

That could have worked exept for the offical letter.

They could have avoided all of this if Jim had just keep his ticket book closed. Jim had been so frustrated that he wrote out tickets. The university could forgive the speeding but the 50 tickets he gave to students for jay walking was going over the top. They just couldn't ignore it any longer.

Blair went off to face the panther, Jim and big cats had a lot in common . . . they both hate to do things they were told.

The end.
