This is something that i just threw together...Its kinda ooc, but i like it...i think...let me know if you do! Or dont lol!
They had just wrapped up a bad case-no make that a horribly bad case, and Kate Beckett did not have the usual contentment that she usually felt after the end of a case, in fact, she was on the edge of a full fledged meltdown. She had had to shoot the suspect, he was about to shoot his hostage, a child when they had stormed in, and Kate took him down before anymore harm was done. But just because it was a justified shooting, didn't mean it made her feel any better about it. And so here she was, curled up in one of Castle's comfy office chairs, trying to come to terms with what she had done. He was sitting in the chair opposite, with his laptop balance precariously on his lap, typing away. She knew that he had phoned ahead to have Alexis and Martha conveniently staying the night at a hotel and spa, and she was grateful for that. She also noted that he almost instinctively knew that all she needed was someone to be there, not to ask questions or talk. Just to be a warm body to lean on if need be.
"Castle"
Looking up, he took in her pained expression, hoping she was ready to talk, but what came out of her mouth was the one question he never wanted to hear come out of her mouth.
"Do you have any idea what it feels like to kill someone, even though that someone is bad?" It was a rhetorical question, he knew that. But he felt that maybe he needed to open up to her, in order for her to open up to him.
"Yes." He replied sadly.
She stared, shocked and surprise flitting across her face.
"...?"
Sighing, Rick placed his laptop down on the table beside him, closing the top with a snap. Sitting so he was leaning slightly forward, his elbows on his knees, he began his story, the one that he had never intended to tell anyone, until this amazing woman hauled him in for questioning.
"When I was 18 years old, I signed up for the army. Due to my ability to concentrate solely on one thing, I progressed through their training quickly. I upgraded and became an Army Ranger Sniper... the elite of the elite. I was sent all over the world to 'take care of things'. By the time I was 22, I had dealt with 21 people that were deemed 'too dangerous'. I was honourably discharged three days before Alexis' birth, we shared a hospital room for a short while actually" he said with a slight smile.
By this time Kate had sat up, her face a mask of disbelief, remembering the time when he had tricked her with the story of the boy in the ocean. "Castle, don't fuck with me, I'm not in the mood" She said briskly.
"I'm not, why do you think I am a good shot? When I shot Dunn's gun out of his hand, I hit the gun for a reason. I wanted him to face trial. I always would prefer people to face trial...What I'm trying to say is yes, I understand, and I'm here for you if you need me, even if its just to be a warm body to receive a hug from."
Kate looked in his eyes and saw the sincerity there, and she knew that the only reason that he told her was to make her feel better, so that she knew she wasn't alone in her feelings. And with that she stood up, crossed the room and sank into his welcoming arms, where she finally let loose the barrage of tears that she had been holding back.
