The Past in the Present

This story begins with a young boy at the age of 10. A powerful weapon, despite his age. He knew the rules of Shibusen, but 99 kishin souls seemed too far away for him to wait for the immense power that came with that of a Death Scythe. He consumed innocent souls, along with that of a witch far earlier than allowed. 25 years later he threatens to destroy Shibusen. OCs and swearing.

Years ago, when I was at the tender age of ten, I was enrolled in the Academy. This, of course, was immensely fulfilling. And I was revered as extraordinarily talented for my age. Everyone at the academy knows the rules: 99 Kishin souls, followed by that of a witch. And who wouldn't abide by that? Well, really, who would abide by it? Wasting time consuming 99 of the tainted, demonic souls, when I could skip straight to the witch and get the power, all the same?

Of course, I know now that a ten year old weapon can't contain the power of a witch's soul. I'm still stuck in my ten year-old body. Joke's on me, right? Wrong. I'm still more powerful than I was before.

But to do this, I had to fake my death, else they confiscate my precious witch's soul. I simply tore up a pair of my clothes when a squadron of rogue witches tried to seize Death City years ago. I managed to take a witch's soul in the process, and with this, I left. As a ten year old I roused no suspicion, and my body was small enough to sneak out without detection.

My funeral, along with that of many others, was held the next day. No complaints from me, this just made my quest that much easier.

But I want more. The souls of innocents were enough to sate me for a while, but now I seek much more. Of course, swallowing multiple witch's souls was satisfying as well. But now even that seems like a waste. The rarest kind of soul possible? Obviously that of a Shinigami. Only one of them in the world, since the death of Asura and Lord Death years ago. Death the Kid's.

But how am I to waltz back in there? I'm not. My soul remained burned into the memory of any meister with Soul Perception. It's a natural reflex seen in advanced meisters; familiar souls take on a certain glow. This complicates my plan. Much more than it should.

Or so you'd think.
